For 90G, it's not too good to be true. I'd have that thing THOROUGHLY inspected by a seasoned pro, if I even had that kinda cake to drop on a piece. If it's real- it's an amazing piece. I would think the plastic would be more yellow though- even kept in the case all these years. Dunno...

Of couse I'd swap those pups for a bright green Tone Zone humbucker in the bridge, slap a floyd on it, scallope the neck and get Tracy Emit to paint a neon pink portait of Yngwie Malmsteen on back (and if theres time, put some stickers on it)...yeah!

Well, that's a given. Plus you'd have to take a belt sander to it to give it the road-worn look. Otherwise who'd believe it's so old‽ 8)

it boggles the mind that so many of these strats in such pristine condition are surfacing all the time.

its almost like all these people in the 1950's and 60's got all excited went out, bought the guitar lost interest almost immediately then have the will to keep the object in the cupboard for 60 years. Fender must have made thousands of these things in the early days.

Question asked, question answered, I suspect.

My wife has a room full of shoes she's only ever worn once or twice, if that. (I call it the Emelda Marcos suite.) There's folks out there like that with guitars, too. Unwanted Christmas present, perhaps? Into the attic with it!

Buy It Now is surprising, though...

Cheers - C

EDIT: finally got round to reading the text on that sale page. If the story of why the guitar is in such good condition is true then my comment, above, is possibly a little flippant. Oops...

Ummmm ... isn't the truss rod screw supposed to be at the base of the neck ... and not on the headstock??

I think its overpriced.

Oh I DEFINITELY agree with you Nevin. Definitely overpriced. Too good to be true would be if his Buy It Now was like $5G or something. Since it's $90G, you'd have to have some serious cake to enjoy this thing.

Agreed that the payment method of direct wire-transfer is a HUGE red flag, as another poster noticed. Sketchy...

Regardless, nobody in their right mind would drop this kind of coin on something site-unseen.

Further, why am I even spouting off about this lol???!! I don't- nor do I ever foresee- having the kind of moolah to drop on something like this LOL!! I'll shut up now...

The guitar is sweet no doubt but way above fair market value,a Ex. to near mint sunburst 55 tops out at about $44-45,000 and a blonde 55 with nickle hardware goes up to $55,000 as close to mint as it is it's doubtful it's worth a $45,000 mark up.

I would never spend 90G's on any guitar regardless if I won the lottery. I think $2000 is too much.

Jay is certainly on point about the wire transfer being a red flag. I have seen a lot of vintage guitars in every way imaginable and this is the cleanest piece I have ever seen. As I said earlier someone had put up a 62 that was Daphne or Lake Placid blue I believe about 8 months ago. There was a video of the guy playing it in what looked like an auto shop and it was bought for over 100K in less than a day. I would believe every big dealer out there is checking out this guitar and am surprised it is still there, which is making me think something is off.

A big dealer doesn't want to pay retail for anything as that's his selling price.
If he can't make a big profit, he won't touch it.

That's not the adjustment.

Okay ... I guess I am stupid, then. Obviously it is a marking of some kind ... It is not normal, right?

Hello!

Early strats had (following quote from Guitar and Bass magazine) "The truss rod adjustment at the body end, and the anchor position on the head was sealed with a walnut dowel that gave an oval shape when the head stock was carved"

Hope this helps

Andy

Thanks -- I did not know that. You can easily tell how many '50s vintage Strats I have owned and played .... ummm, none.

Here's a 1954 you guys can compare it to. I wouldn't but this one though, just cause I would like to buy from someone who has more feedback.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 0446318863

They guitars should have 2 small clamping holes, one near the neck pocket, on the upper side, and one between the bridge and the route. I can see the one near the neck pocket on the 1955, but can't tell if there's one near the bridge.
