I saw a custom shop strat with a four bolt neck plate that is not rectangular or symmetric. It basically looks like the 4 bolt type with the top left (looking from back) corner cut off and the top left screw at about the midpoint of the left side. Sorry no pics but I have not figured out the system. Any input on this appreciated.

That's the "contoured heel" you saw.

Non-Custom Shops have it too ... the Jeff Beck for one.

The Deluxes may have it too, I'm not 100% sure.

It allows for easy access to the upper frets.
