I have 4 (see pic) and am working on my 5th very soon!
These are so damned versatile! From Hendrix to Zeppelin at the flick of a switch!! And those fat headstocks......well....they're just the deal closer!!
I've modified all of these with pickups of my preference (noiseless singles and various HB's) and I'm truly enjoying the heck out of them! Each has it's own personality and is used for different jam occasions.
Here they are....my 'keys to the Highway'!

I've bought and sold many Highway 1's (SSS and HSS). I never was too crazy about the hardware and the electronics. Don't look at them sideways or they'll scratch completely down to the wood (even the new "NITRO" finishes). I had a blonde Tele that I outfitted with gold hardware that looked awesome, but I was afraid to touch it, so I sold it. But I will give you this - they provide better quality of sound than any other electric guitar in their price range. Once again Fender has provided an avenue for serious players at an affordable price. Handle them gently, get a hard shell case for them and you'll never be sorry that you shelled out $750.00 for them.

A lot of comments are made about how fragile the finish is on the highway 1 that it will scratch easy, fade easy or wear to easy.

If an owner of a highway 1 wanted to, couldn't you take everything off of it and have someone spray a few layers of lacquer? Or is that considered some kind of sin?

dude i agree, i have 2 now, one 3tone sunburst and 1 hny blonde, both were purchased at awesome prices. dude the finish is meant to wear, and get little scratches and dinges here and there, eventually look like your own vintage.
guy with strats, did you switch off the bridge saddles or do the ssh hwy 1 come like that.
my sss hwy1 come with different ones. let me know there sick

I just bought a 3tone/sss for $390 NEW and it is amazing! I played an american std. and liked the feel and sound of the hwy. 1 better. It came set up perfectly!! I can see how one could worry about the finish but you just have to play the thing and let the guitar gain character.

There's a few threads here where thats considered a good thing. People looking for ways to relic their fairly new strats.
For me, spraying on lacquer just kills the guitars resonance. Chips and dings and cracks are just mojo to me. The sign of a well played instrument.

I agree......Strats look GREAT when they're beat up a little! Why would I pay premium dollar for a pre-beat up custom shop Strat when I can pick out the electronics to MY specs and beat it up myself.
Our 'babies' aren't always going to be such shiny little gems! Look at Phillip Sayce's Strat, Stevie's # 1, Rory's Strat, Kenny Wayne's.....ect......
I could only hope that mine take on such "Mojo"!!
