hey everyone,

Just got done shielding my stratocaster with copper foil.

My question is, is it okay to connect a ground wire from the input cavity to the pickup cavity?

Reason being, iam having a hard time getting the foil in the small hole.

thanks!

You could do that but your shielding will be weak at the opening of the hole. I can't tell from your post how valuable this guitar is or whether you would be comfortable modifying the guitar any further but one idea might be to use the existing hole as a pilot hole and redrill the hole with a ¼" bit. Then you would have a much easier time foiling the inside of the hole. I enlarged both the holes (jack cavity plus trem claw cavity) in one of my Strats for a different reason but I have experienced no drawbacks since drilling.

Just a thought....

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Best way I know how is to run a thin coax (shielded wire) from the input to the volume pot (or however your strat is wired). This would replace a two wire system if you have it installed and turn it into a shielded loom.

Then from that point in the control cavity the ground is run off to all other grounds/shielding. This requires soldering of course. If this guitar is not a wall ornament your bound to break a few parts in its life so in that case go for it.

+1 on the sheilded cable. Any good sheilded cable will do.

hey everyone thanks for the help.

I decided to go a simpler way...shielding paint.

however, i am interested in hearing more about this coax wire...

I attaches to the output jack and replaces the hot wire and ground wire? how is it attached exactly?

mark
