Hi all, I am currently looking at buying a Strat from a guy that is supposed to be a MIM hot rod but I can't find any such guitar on the interweb. I like the guitar and I like the price but I would like to know if the guitar is what he says it is before commiting. any help would be greatly appreciated.

p.s. It has an 06 serial, and is equipped with seymour duncan pick ups, including a lipstick pick up in the neck position. I havent seen this factory from fender before, but I also don't live in guitar stores like some of the true GAS-ers

I don't think so. The guy probably made some mods himself and is calling it a "hot rod" (as opposed to the official "Hot Rod" models).

Ask him directly about aftermarket parts and what it originally was.
Ask him if he has the model number, etc.

thanks orville, I spent a couple hours last night and then a couple more this morning looking and I had pretty much come to the same conclusion. It is still a nice guitar so I am def. still interested. one further question are the 60th annivesary MIM special in any way other than the year they were made? componants, wood used, etc.?

I believe there was a special MIM Anniversary model, but I'm not up on the specs of all of those kinds of things (you'll have to google it or search this forum). All guitars that year had the little round badge glued to the back of the headstock, but only a couple of models were designated Anniversary Models.

Got any pics you could share? Or tell us the specs. Someone here would probably know what model it was (perhaps a modified Classic Player).

From the brief info you've given I'd say that he did some mods and "hot rodded" it himself. Nothing wrong with that at all as long as it was done correctly. That makes it a "custom" guitar. If the price is right, buy it.

For comparison, here's the MIM Standard 60th Anniversary model:

If the guitar doesn't have a silver body and tinted neck with maple fretboard, then it is NOT a special 60th Anny model.

+1

But unless some pics are posted of the guitar in question we have no idea of knowing which Fender model it started out life as before it was modded.
