Well, first off, Dave doesn't use HSS Strats, he uses SSS Strats. Second he uses a couple of pieces of hardware in most of his Strats that are not present in an OEM Fender guitar. One of them is a midrange boost/cut control and the other is a bass/treble expander. On some of his guitars there is a TBX tone control. He has many guitars and not all are wired the same.

Try the EMG web site. At one time they used to sell a preloaded, prewired pick guard.

Please post in only one forum if you could -- I'll leave this one since it's gotten a response! Good luck ...

Can't say it there so I will here instead. That was mighty fast work locking that spam post in the Lounge! 8)

One second the post arrived, a few moments later I was busy writing a reply observing the coincidence that a certain Robbie Smith was promoting a guitar built at Smith Guitar Works - and by the time I hit "submit" it was too late! The thread was locked!

Respect...

Anyhow. To max-preston: if it is Gilmour's Strat setup you are interested in then a version of it is still available prewired from EMG. Just Google their SA active single coil set to get close.

Mind you, it comes without some of the other features mentioned by BMW-KTM, above...

Cheers - C

If memory serves I believe you used to be able to order the prewired assembly c/w the special pots of your choice. No idea if that's still the case.

I don't know why everyones only talking about DG's red strat with EMGs. I'm pretty sure his most used strat was black.

Single coils with an extra on off switch for 7 way switching. That's marginal imho, as I have read that DG doesn't recall ever using it or something similar.

I have a question about these. I am thinking of finishing a guitar and putting a prewired EMG system on it. It seems that all of them come with a pearloid pickguard which the minimalist in me just doesn't like. Can the pick guard be switched out to a standard Fender solid color pickguard? or better said, Can I move all the electronics over to a different pickguard relatively painlessly? It would seem so..but thought I would ask the experts.

Let's bear in mind that Dave wasn't strictly a Strat player. A significant portion of The Wall and also many other recordings as well were done using his butterscotch Ash Telecaster with a maple fretboard. Maybe the most famous of which was Run Like Hell.

Prolly because on the last American (and Canadian) tour (Division Bell, 1994) he primarily used a red EMG equipped Strat. I saw that tour twice in two different cities. I can now die in peace because I've seen Floyd in concert twice.

hey BMW-KTM,
that a pretty good memory .... I saw the wall in 81 Nassau Coliseum, Momentary lapse of reason tour in LA, the Division Bell in San Diego all fantastic shows but I couldn't tell you what guitar he was playing and I am a guitar play/builder. Guess its old age ... HA... oh and recently got to see the WALL again ... absolutely unbelievable kept wishing David would show up to play Comfortably Numb ..but no show but my 15 year old Son got to see the show and the closest thing to Pink Floyd for his birthday .....I know he will never forget it ... The setup for the black strat with the original images are at ...http://www.stratcat.biz/dg_info.shtml they show the Fender custom shop model in comparison to their own kit, with a wiring diagram as well.

However his most famous guitar remains the black strat; Very cool that you saw them, I am 16 and happen to like old bands and mostly old bands that will likely never tour again

Also I believe pulse was their last tour :?: It was not of one particular album but still... But you know that probably considering you said american and Pulse had shows in Europe.

Wish they would go on tour again even if they would not all be there. RIP Rick Wright and Syd Barrett
