Hey guys,
I was thinking about the new road worn series and have seen that a lot of people don't like them very much.. So I was just wondering how the Road Worn series compares to the Classic Players series in terms of quality..

Thanx,
Mike

I haven't found a good Road Worn yet. I've played a lot of them and they all had one quality issue or another.

I can't vouch for the Road Worns but I can tell you that CP 50s Strat is a pleasure to play. The workmanship is first class, the neck is the perfect profile for me, and the pickups are great for the classic rock stuff I attempt to play... I actually enjoy my CP 50s more than my American Deluxe HSS, mainly 'cause the neck is more comfortable for me ... I wish now that there were more choices color-wise for CP 50s so I could justify buying another one....

^ Wow!! that must be pretty impressive!! would you say that the CP50s could be as good as some more expensive custom shop models?

i own a rw 60s strat . it is a great guitar it plays very well the frets are very nicely done and it is almost as light as my 63 tele .the pickups are bright and chimey . i use this guitar at gigs all the time now and dont worry about getting a dent or scratch on it . i know some of the early rw have some issues with frets . but doesnt every guitar have some issues right out of the factory. the way the frets are installed or the way they are finnished on a new guitar is unacceptable if poorly done. but i have picked up cp and other american built strats that all had issues. one i picked up wieghed so much after i played it for 5 min. it actually became very uncomfortable. all guitars are subject to everyones own evaulation and everyone has thier own likes and dislikes . the way they look is the least important to me . if you find a good guitar you like fine .but dont slam the whole series cause you heard one has a problem .

No, not every guitar has an issue coming from the factory. I've played plenty of Epi's, Ibanez, lower end PRS like the ONE and Gibby Melody Makers that were great right out of the box. How many bad Martin guitars have you seen? Even the lower end models are pretty nice.
Guitars that have issues come from sloppy workmanship and poor quality control. Every guitar is not being inspected if they get out of the factory like that. You can't always blame it on shipping or the weather either.

Funny thing is, I don't worry about dings and scratches anyway. All my guitars are players, not museum pieces. If I worry about them, I can't concentrate on the music or the show. I'm not a stationary or static player. My favorite is my original 57 Dano U1 that was found in the trash.

like i said not all have issues some do some dont . i have played some epiphones and never really liked them but quality wise they were ok. the only martins i have played and liked was a old 50s era d-28. the new martins feel stiff and they just dont have the sound and tone like they used too . i did play a buddys gibson melody maker that was just awesome. i play fender and dont own any thing else but my two strats and tele . after 30 years of playing you think i would play some other makes as well but im so used to my guitars others feel too much of a change to switch to a different main guitar. my point is and was that all guitars are different in one way or the other but from the factory major issues like frets or assembly are not acceptable . some people slam the whole model line because they have played one or two that had issues. recently i have played a vintage 62 strat that was great and a 69 tele that should have been returned to the factory years ago so they can see what not to do

I doubt the CP50s is as good as a custom shop model quality-wise but I think there's a point where the improvement in quality doesn't warrant how much extra you have to pay. Guitar is a hobby for me so there's no way I could really justify the need for me to have a custom shop model.

I consider my CP50s to be kind of a MIM version of a custom shop model. No, it isn't up to the same standards as a MIA custom shop Am Deluxe, for example, but its plenty good enough for me. My guess is the attention to detail and electronics on an MIA custom shop guitar are better but I doubt I'd be able to tell the difference if I was blind-folded..

So, now that they've cut the price of the CP series guitars, I personally think they're a real bargain. Like you always hear on the board here, the best test is to try out a bunch of different models and see what specifically suits you..

I couldn't agree more.

A lot of what folks argue about around here boils down to personal preference, and playing a whole bunch of different guitars and just seeing which one you like the most is really the only way to do it, and wind up getting what you'll actually be happy with.

The necks on the CP series are not my thing at all - although they're obviously great guitars at a great price, they're just not my kind of thing. But they're someone else's kind of thing, and that's cool.

I own 4 RW Strats,2 RW Teles and 3 CP Strats. They are all great guitars with each their own vibe.I am a great vintage enthusiast so I love the RW's....especially because of their thin nitro lacquer which really gives a woody acoustic resonance. They really break in fast too because of the thin lacquer and now are really starting to feel like genuine vintage guitars.I also love their skinny/tall 6105 frets combined with the 7.25 radius. The CP's are really nicely made guitars too. They have great pickups and the jumbo fret/12 radius make for easy playabilty. If you like your guitars to remain in pristine condition, then the polyester finish on these will last a lot longer than the nitro of the RW's.Try both out if you get a chance to see where your preference is.

If I had a choice I'd get the road worn, rather than classic.

Hello guys from Italy.
Classic Player forever !!! I have a Classic Player '50 and it's a great guitar.
It's my opinion , but I don't like any models with false " years age " , this guitar are not old , but also not new for my eyes.
Classic Player intsead is a new guitar build by look to old model .
I have also many doubt to playbility of road worn series, on a Classic Player you will not ever this problem.
A suggest try to play each models or also other at the same time on a daler , this is the only way to see and feel the differences and only after this you will decide what would be the the best guitar for you.
Bye
Guido

I own a 50s Road Worn Strat and I love it. I've never played a Classic Player and if I were to play one I'd probably want one. All I can say is that in my opinion no guitar is perfect out of the box. There is always a little tweak here or there that will make a guitar "the one". I have to say that mine played very well. I thought mine sounded thin, so I tweaked the pickup heights. I love the look, the fret size, the feel of the neck, the sound and vibe of my RW Strat. I believe the RWs are over priced but what guitar isn't? The only advise I could give you is to play as many of both the RWs & CPs as you can. You'll know which is the right one. If you like both, buy both!

I have owned both and sold both. I liked both the 60s Classic player is a very good guitar I would say IMO the best mim. The 50s road worn was a fun guitar to play also but the Classic player was better,
