OK, first post here so hello everyone. Right. I've played strats before but never owned one and I'm thinking of building my first strat (buying a body this month, a neck next month ect.) partly because I can have all the parts I want on my strat, and partly because I am rubbish at saving money (the sort of money i'd need for a CS strat anyway!!) So I was wondering if any of you guys had done the same? Did you run into any problems with the build? I'm most concerned about the body/neck joint. Obviously it has to be SOLID. Having never had a strat in bits before are there any special techniques/materials needed to attatch the neck, or is it just the 4 bolts on the neck plate? Any experience shared would be greatly appreciated.

I plan to do the same some day. But what I have found is that not every neck matches simply with each body. The radius could effect fit. I found a couple of ebay stores that sell bits and pieces of everything. Get an idea of what you want to build and call them to see if things will match.

One of the ebay stores that has a lot is the stratosphere.

Here is an ebay link to start. http://search.ebay.com/fender-strat-bod ... 0QQfrtsZ50

This shop is about is a bout 45 minutes from me. The owner Justin has a lot of knowledge and is reputable. http://stores.ebay.com/JCs-Guitars

I have just finished my first strat off of Ebay parts and it was a blast! I'll be posting pictures when I get home. My research has shown that Fender and Fender licensed parts are very consistent in their construction - go for it!!!

Go for it. Strats aren't hard to assemble. Just make sure you know how to set it up once its done, and it'll be great. Usually the neck just attaches with the four screws, but sometimes a shim is placed between the neck and the body to angle the neck correctly. You don't need to worry about this until the guitar is completely assembled and set up though, and most guitars don't even need one.
