Hi,
I am very interested in buying a Fender Stratocaster. I'm just not sure which model to buy. I play blues and rock music. Some of my favourite artists are Eric Clapton, John Mayer, and The Tragically Hip.
I was thinking my best option would be the Fender American Deluxe. I don't want one with humbuckers because I already have a guitar with humbuckers in it, so it wouldn't make much sense to buy another.

What would you suggest as to which model I buy?

Also, I would buy an amp with the strat. I'd be looking for a tube combo amp. What would you recommend there?

I have no real price limit for either.

Thanks,
Peter

Welcome to the Forum.

Best advice I can give you is to go out to several music stores and play as many guitars/amps as you can. The right guitar/amp will find you!

Well, with no price limit, the sky is the limit.
But really, the best of the best is going to be Custom Shop. You can get any kind of option you want with the Custom Shop. If not the cs, then your best bet for a guitar would just be the American Standard. Great sounding guitars for the money. American Deluxe is also a good choice. Any Artist guitar is going to be great, and if you like John Mayer, the JM Strat would be a good choice too. Just go out and play them. That's the only way you will find what you like. As far as a tube amp goes, just about any Fender tube amp sound good, of course, some do sound better than others. Again, you are just going to have to go try them out and see which one sounds best to you. Good luck, and have fun testing them.

These guys are right, play as many as you can, then play more. Don't be fooled. Just because you have a guitar with a humbucker already, don't short yourself by not playing a Strat with one. They all sound different. As far as an amp goes, I have a Hot Rod Deville 410 on layaway. I had one years ago and like an idiot I sold it. I miss it greatly!

I would try out an American Standard through a Princeton Reverb. That's a good sounding combination. Better than a Deluxe , in my opinion.

Buy a Clapton Signature if going to spend the money. American Deluxe has that S-1 that goes bad on occasion. Stick to what's simple. As for Amps, pure tube is good. Fender Deluxe is great. I have a Superchamp XD, but it has a digital modulation mixed in with it.
