Personally I like the MIM Necks. I don't see the point of rolled edges and would rather have the full use of my frets (ala MIM). You can spray a bit of Nitrose Lacquer on the rear of the neck to smooth out the edges if you want (but I'm not recommending this).

Bodies, on the other hand... MIM bodies need to be checked for neck/body joint fit. The are quite obviously passed down the assembly line faster than a USA Strat, this is most noticable when you one has visablly looked to the neck/body contact points of several of them, especially at the very butt of the neck. Often on a MIM Strat, this is the weakest construction link. The only proper way to fix this (when it's like this) is to mount a new neck that has no holes drilled, so you can have a proper fit. Even then, the pickguard might not align properly and in such cases either the guard needs to be shaved or new screwholes drilled.

A MIM neck on a Japanese or USA Strat can often produce a really sweet guitar and for the money, MIM necks are pretty fine.

Hi All, I'm new to this forum. However I have been playing Strats for a very long time.
I have a 1959 Strat, and a 1994 American and a Mexican HSS. I freaking love them all. The all do different things for me. My advice, quit talking and start playing.

Hmmm... on your '59 Strat: Does your "D" shaped neck compare favorably with you others?

The price difference (if you are comparing apples to apples) between the MIM standard to the MIA standard is roughly 400 , not 500 bucks because you have to factor in about 100 for the case.

Not that anyone in the US cares, but in a lot of places, like where I live, a MIM sells after haggling, for $750. A MIA $1600. And you don't get a free case.

When the entry level and price jump is that big, there needs to be a substantial difference between the two, and I can't feel or hear one.

The MIA Teles have a slightly wider nut width, and that's a difference I prefer, but I'm not paying that sort of premium for .8mm of real estate.

The 59 is just different, I really can't give a detail explanation. Like I said they all are different in my hands and tone. Unfortunately when I bought the guitar back in 1976 the bridge pickup was not original. Guitar tech, Dan Brown San Jose CA, replaced with a PU that is supposed to be close to the original. And honestly I couldn't tell the diff.

The MIMs are fabulous well made guitars with (in my experience) nice necks. That being said, the MIAs will have slightly higher quality, tuners, pickups, and neck work. And don't forget the MIA hardshell case. There is great value in each.

Here's another MIM plus. I bought a used 2001 MIM Fender last year with upgraded Duncan PUPs already installed (a closet queen with very little play time on it) and a hard shell case for $380. It plays and sounds as well as any MIA I've heard or played, with the possible exception of an Eric Johnson I played last night.
