Is MZ2 + 6 digits a valid serial number? The serial number locator only mentions MZ2 + 5 digits for MIM strats.

It is quite reasonable to expect it to be valid as the MIA Strats are listed as 5 or 6. Why don't you send the whole serial number off to Fender Customer support if you want to get the full spec of the guitar (if your concerned its not legitimate).

I've two MIM's one from 95 with the serial reading MN5xxxxxx.
The other a Baja telecaster with MZ8xxxxxx.

Perfectly normal, seen it plenty of times.

Thanks, that makes me feel a lot better. This thing sounds so sweet, that if it is a fake, Fender better be seriously concerned that the fakes are better than the original. :D

I just brought a used MIM Strat last night and was concerned. When I got back to my hosue I came on here and looked at the FAQ Serial Numbers and my number wasn't on there.

I started to freak out and called Fender in the morning. I gave them the number and they told me the year, color, birthplace, etc... Their customer service was extremely helpful.

You should give them a ring...

I'll do that. I looked for an email address before I started this thread but couldn't find it. Didn't know I could call. Thanks. And congrats on your purchase. I can relate to your anxiety.

Email customer relations at the address found near the bottom of this page ~~> http://www.fender.com/support/consumer_relations.php

You'll recieve an email back in a day or two telling you all about your instrument. Very helpful. I did that with mine and was pleasantly surprised. See the Powerhouse Stratocaster thread.

My MIM's serial number is MZ5XXXXXX... the year 2005 and six more digits. Relax. Yours is valid. 8)
