hello one and all... got a question for you all. I found a guy that has a 1986 japanese stratocaster. he is the original owner and says it is in near mint condition. I am probably going to meet with him this weekend to check it out. He is asking $699... what is your opinion about the price? Here is what was written

1986 FENDER JAPANESE STRATOCASTER MIJ-E606326 BLACK BEAUTY INCLUDES FENDER CLASSIC HARD CASE. FENDER VERSION OF FLOYD ROSE STYLE 1 TREMOLO BRIDGE with fine tuners. TONE AND VOLUME BUTTONS ARE FENDER ORIGINALS. THE NECK IS PERFECTLY STRAIGHT. FRETS ARE LIKE NEW!! wammy bar included. tremolo chrome is slightly chipped, but doesn't affect anything.

What are your thoughts?

The seller is dreaming if he thinks he can get $699 for that Strat. I'm not sure what the appropriate price should be because 80's Japanese Fenders with Floyd Roses are not to popular, hence why I think the price is insane.

For not much more $ you could get a brand new Highway 1 or American Special Strat!

Thank you very much... i like strats and i am "passively" looking for one. I have a really nice MIJ jaguar, this one sounded nice but i had no real judge of value. I mean i would not have walked up and plopped down my $700 without looking. Thanks for saving me the time!

Those 80S MIJ fenders are great guitars be they Strat or Tele and I am saying that as someone who owns 3 besides 8 MIA Fenders. I would of tried to get him down a bit but he will not have a problem selling it for what he is asking. But the one Atolleter showed you for that price if all original is a steal.

i will probably meet with him and check it out. i am biased toward MIJ stuff in general but we shall see how it goes. Probably if he wavers a little in price it will be a good meeting but if he is set in stone then i will probably walk. either way not gonna sweat it.

People are not that crazy about Floyds on Strats. You should be able to reduce that price down. Also, consider a standard trem if re-sale value is important to you. Strats with Floyds seem to be worth less than standard trem models, and harder to sell.

Also - only get the Floyd if you are sure you really want one. Don't get it on a whim. Just my opinion ...

Don't brand new MIMs with a Floyd sell for that?
