Off immediately--leaving it on is like leaving the external tags on a new suit. The only person that needs to know if it is a Hugo Boss (or MIA Standard Strat) is the one wearing (or playing) it.

Take it off immediately. No need to protect the scratchplate. That's what it's there for - to get scratched!

I usually take a few pics of a new Strat with the plastic and stickers on the pick guard... then off it goes before the film has the chance to age and leave glue residue.

I take it off just as soon as I have had a chance to thoroughly inspect the guitar, and I'm sure I wont be returning it. Usually just a few days. That plastic film takes away from the beauty of the guitar.

I left mine on a '97 USA strat for over almost two years. Played the hell out of it, then peeled it off, no harm no foul, except I had a 2 year old guitar in showroom condition. Still have it..still in near mint condition, still play everyday. No nicks dings or scratches.

My Strat is Artic White with a white (w/b/w) pick guard. At first it was like going out in an all white suit, nervous about that first stain.
So, I left mine on for a few weeks as I watched it slowly ripple, creating an interesting "crinkle" effect.
Silly, I know.

When I got my new Fender Jazz Bass, I took hers off right away.
Live dangerously, I say…take it off, baby!

I take it off. Not just guitars, but any appliance I get that has that stuff on it. Computers and the like also come with it.

I have to call "BS" on the part of it leaving glue or residue. My MIM is a 2005 I just recently bought new and the film came off easily with no ill effects to the pick guard or back cover. 8)

Take it Off! It's only meant to protect the pickguard during shipping.

Its meant to protec the guitar during transport and when hanging on a shop wall. Once its pulled off, the guitar is now yours!

Thanks guys. Taking it off though was a lot harder than I thought. I had totake the knobs off now I forgot where they went. What I mean is, I don't remember where say the number 1 starts or the number 10
ends. I know it doesn't really matter but I'm trying to remeber the way it came and forgot to take note first.

I've been playing Strats for 20 years now and should now this (my guitar is not in front of me right now) but I think when the control is turned all the way up the number 10 is facing straight up at you. This goes for all of the controls. If you set the guitar down and step back, the 10 should be at 12 o' clock. I hope that makes sense.

Also, I loosened most of the scews to get the plastic out underneath the screws accept for the pup screws. I gather if I were touch these screws I would essentially be adjusting the height of the pups. Now I have tiny strands around them.

Thanks,
Jazzy

Yeah measure your pickup height before you turn the screws so you can put it back where you started. I have success getting the plastic from under the pickup height screws by using tweezers to grab a strand and the rest of the plastic from under the screw follows.

Good luck!

Thank you, it makes perfect sense to me now.

I have one more for you all. This is a little bit me being anal but when pushing the knobs back into place, did you push all the way down? It seems Fender may have left a little room where as I pushed mine down as far as they can go. I only ask because the knobs now scrape a ever so slightly whereas before there was clearence between the knobs and the pickguard. I tried to lift them up a little but it's now far too difficuilt to move them.

I just assumed to push all the way down as far as the knobs could go with reasonable force of course. Have you all done the same?

Thanks again,
Jazzy

There should be about a dime's thickness worth of clearance or so. In your effort to peel off the plastic, did you loosen the washers that hold the volume and tone pots to the pickguard? If so, make sure you retighten the washers or else the pot shaft will be lower nad the knob will sit lower to the pickgaurd.

It could also be that you used too much force pushing the knobs back on. If your having touble taking the knobs off, there are many different tips on the net to getting the knobs off. Here's a google search for ya: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&sour ... ing+strat+
