I cannot see any constructive point in rambling on the negatives of someone.
If you don't like him as a person, what he says or as an artist then why post?

John Mayer doesn't need to have the same views as you, be your friend or say anything else to make you feel happy. That is what his music is for and if you don't like it - listen to something else.

This whole thread is TROLLING for negative posts.

Its like listening to a bunch housewives going on about how their relationship is so bad. Simple - leave him!

You weren't policing all the John Mayer is so awesome posts. face it he is a celeb, he says something people react.

he has the right to say whatever twaddle he wants, that is true, but then he gets to face the reaction. Probably not to wise to toss around N-bombs like confetti when you are trying to get respect in a field pioneered by black artists.
many people have expressed views in the past that he is only surface deep, and boorish, only to be called 'haters' by his fans. yet you fans are still here to defend him when he spews out hate in a giant circle. the people who have expressed negative views of him have had all their feelings validated by his actions.
he issued an apology that doesn't actually apologize. it just asks people to keep buying his records and not judge him, he doesn't actually address the content of his interview, or in fact, actually address the people he slurred.
if you don't like what is being said about him you don't have to read it. and he only has himself to blame. he said what he said in a very public forum, a very well known magazine. tough cookies.

Well after reading a very dull interview, i mean come on. Leonard Coen's more entertaining than that. I'd have to conclude that John Mayer isnt thinking.

Any hetrosexual man in the prime of his life. That says they'd rather go crack one off than drag some bird home, promise her the world for a night of sordid sin. Is either not thinking or smacked up.

My half serious conclusion is that if your going to play the celebrity game you gotta abide by its rules. He ought to get his PR people to write his answers out for him, judging the quality of that tripe.

Remember, actions speak far louder than words. I do agree though that I just wish ALL entertainers would stick to entertaining rather than trying to give us quirky sound bites. That goes for hardcore rap artists, the Dixie Chick, Barbara Streisand and their ilk just as much as it goes for John Mayer. Dude can flat out play guitar and this doesn't change that.

well said, from one columbus player to another (actually I'm gahanna technically).

I've said tons of stuff that people have taken offence to (of course frankly I don't give a damn) but hey, it shows the guy is human. he made a mistake. he recognized it was a mistake. he took action to apologize and express his feelings. deal with it, people.

I don't police any threads nor do I pay attention to 90% of the media. I did read that interview in the first post and I laughed. John Mayer is funny.
If people that think he is so bad then why don't they boycott buying Fender Stratocasters. Or perhaps sell a guitar and donate it to another cause like Haiti or something.

Don't turn the forum into a Womans magazine. Trolls attract more trolls and before you know it there is a Trollfest occurring where Trolls come in and party with each other. Then you need to go buy a big gun and start culling all the Trolls (as you may be aware Trolls are hard to kill once they get started).

I was at that Nashville show...and sadly I don't think that appology was very heartfelt. It just seemed like he was saying it to cover his $@! after saying something stupid. Don't get me wrong, I'm a John Mayer fan, seeing as I went to the show. But, it just didn't seem very heartfelt. I could be totally wrong, my friend thought the tears were real, but I don't know, for some reason it didn't seem to be all that genuine. Oh well. If it was, it was really needed. And, going back to the Crossroads mention, before the show, I was at Gruhn's Guitar Shop (any vintage enthusiast should know the place) and who happens to walk in, but Steve Jordan, David Ryan Harris, Sean Hurley, and Charlie Willson. The whole band except John and Robbie. I got to talk to Steve Jordan for about 10-15 mins. and while talking to him I asked if the John Mayer Trio was going to play at Crossroads this year. He said they absolutely are going to play. I also asked if JM3 was going to come out with a studio album, to which his response was no, not right now. He then said, there could be one in the future, who knows, but no plans as of now. Thought that might interest some of you. As a side note, every single person in John's band is very nice and humble, especially Steve Jordan. Great guy. Met John at the Brooklyn secret show that was mentioned in the article, and he didn't SEEM to be extremely full of himself, but then again, who can really tell? I don't think such humble and talented people would associate themselves with a huge jerk though, honestly.

Unfortunately he doesn't. Theres plenty of law impairing speech. Particularly speech of a racially negative slant. No doubt the reason for his apology.

Unfortunately freedom of speech is a myth. Where law abounds freedom is diminished.

As long as he is writing there checks they will tell you what you want to hear, when they no longer play for him then what they really think will come out. I dont listen to his music and I also dont stick my tongue in another guys mouth for half a minute. If you read the forums there are a lot of post that deal with things outside of guitars. He also happens to be a Fender artist so that makes him news here. So all the die hards can post a picture of him holding the infamous Black One or report every word he says about it and post it, but when he says he plays with himself most of the day, uses racial slurs, is making out with !@$ guys, bragging about who he slept with, and a ton of other idiotic things we cant talk about- NOT

Two interviews in a month talking about the same things is not a mistake. Except the second time he went racial and his PR people had to rush out the damage control but he did not slip once when he said the N word he also called his privates the David Dukes of privates who for those who dont know used to be the head of the Klan so he is saying it is only for white women. So no one here is trying to destroy Mayer as he is doing a great job all by himself.

What Clapton said about him as best as I remember from Rollingstone was - That he tries to be a bit to clever and that there are millions of bedroom players and that is what he was but he is getting better, and is playing with others now. Also he can see him easily destroying himself and if the people around him dont keep an eye on him he will. Who new Eric was psychic.
