He wont and neither will Buddy Guy. The old crooners are getting a lot of exposure to a younger audience. Thats the only reason why Mayers ever been on the same billing as them.

If Clapton doesn't toss him I'll lose a lot of respect for him. It's kind of funny that Mayer is supposedly a huge pothead and he's on the bill to benefit a rehab center. Maybe he should pay it a visit to help with his habitual bad taste and big mouth.

Well, if they do can him at least he has a standing offer elsewhere. I read in the news that one of the big porn studios wants him to write movies for them after reading his comments on the subject.

I'm sorry but freedom of speech is a complete myth. There's plenty of things you cant say, both sides of the pond. For instance, I dare anyone to go say to George or Tony 'perhaps the taliban are right' and see exactly how free your speech is.:? You dont have to believe it, I dont. Just for a dare go see what happens if you do go say it to one of those ex-premieres. When blackbox agencies have finished waterboarding you, you can come back here and tell us all about it. If they've let up on monitoring your internet usage.
There's lots of laws inhibiting what you can or cant say. Not inciting racial hatred or violence being two. Where law abounds freedom is diminished.

What Enoch Powell statement did Clapton make?

For those that dont know Enoch Powell was a British rightwing politician who made a speech about restricting the number of immigrants allowed into the country and advocating paying them to repatriate into their own countries. His main thrust was that all peoples should be equal in the eyes of the law and that immigrants shouldnt hold a elevated position. That our continued allowance of this discrimination against British nationals would lead to rivers of blood in the streets.

I wonder what he'd make of Britan today? Nationals discriminated against all the time, racial tensions everywhere. All because of a leftwing party that implemented a 'divide the rightwing vote' strategy early into their rule.

Ah really?Like it or not, when you are in the public eye , you are being judged in most aspects of your life.I am sure John Mayer doesnt mind being judged for the good things,so its only fair hes judged for the bad too.It doesnt have anything to do with censorship, but we as a society have a right to decide what is acceptable and what is not.The day where celebrities can say and do whatever they want and it be ok is gone, gone.

Im sure john Lennon would disagree. Was he rude and arrogant? Yes outspoken? In religeon and politics but how many people regard him as a hero today. Guys all I'm saying is let the man say what he thinks iv it makes him happy. Everybody on this thread is doing Just that.

nikininja I'm not saying he's right at all. Far from it. All I'm saying is let a man stand and say what he thinks. Yeah he'll probs get slated to hell for it but atleast let him have a say like the rest of rhe people on this thread are doing. I'm sorry if I've offended anybody but ya can't use the war as an example of freedom of speach. Unless ya wanna talk about the thousands of people who have changed there tune and are now now standing and saying America and Britain should pull out or never should of got involved in rhe first place.

Yeah mate I agree with you, the bloke should be allowed his say.

I for one despise all law, I'm a complete nihilist. The sad fact is that laws exist for our protection and control. Otherwise Mayer would be far more likely to receive a more physical backlash. The previous comment I made was more highlighting how freedom of speech isn't a truth of the modern world. Than in some way equating Mayer to the war.

Mayer should be glad its just a bunch of nobody's on the internet turning this one over. I'm trying to be objective and all I can think is that if this happened before the rise of the internet. It would have ended his career outright. Can you imagine what The Mirror would have made of the statement in say 1988?

I think bringing Lennon in as an example is a good one. Lennon was usually a bit acidic, witty and jaded in his interviews. Mayer seems to have tried to take on the same attributes but isnt as capable of making himself understood. It comes of as obnoxious, snotty incoherence. Hence my previous comments of inane ramblings and should let his PR people write his answers.
