From what I see, it's a 22 fret Strat copy, but best to do as 'Hop' suggested.

I've never seen a black nut before. It does look like a knock-off. But there's only one way to be certain and that is to run the serial number through Fender support and get a run down on the instrument. If it's valid, all the data will match up. The sunburst looks suspect too.

But I'm no expert... 8)

The problem: that's the only picture i've got...

Please make a rough guess,,, is it worth like 600 dollars,, or more like 1600? Or is this realy hard to say without any further information?

Tnx everyone!

And is that a finishing sander next to the guitar???

How much do they want for that?

It doesn't say.

It's on a open bidding site, and last time it wasn't sold (so I guess no one bid above the minimum required price)

So this could also be a fake Fender, and the only way to find out is to see if it says Fender on the top... ?

Not saying it's fake . There are numerous ways of telling and one bad angled shot don't cut it! Lots more info needed and I would not want you or anyone ripped off my friend!! :)

The dot markers at the 12th fret are too far apart to be a genuine Fender neck.

Dont bid.

I noticed that as well. I seem to remember a thread, a while back now, where the width of the dots at 12 were discussed. Someone within this community had a MIJ (I think it was, could be wrong about that  ) that had wider dots at twelve.

To the OP, if your budget is $600 USD and up, (i say that b/c you mentioned it in one of your post) you should be able to find plenty of used Fender Guitars (for that kind of money) where authentication will not be such a hassle. Good Luck!

Peace,
84

I am saying that it's a copy, rather than a fake. Even though an attempt has been made to cover the headstock you can see that the logo peeping out does not say Fender. So it ain't a fake - just a cheapo copy.

We can say it's cheap because of the forearm contour. The black has been sprayed onto the whole contour to hide the fact that the veneer on the front has not been bent round across the contour, so the grain runs out at that point, revealing the body wood beneath. That's what the black is there to cover up.

Fender do that in the tummy contour on the back of sunburst MIMs, but they don't need to on the front because bending a veneer across the forearm contour is really easy. So to not do so is eye-poppingly cheap! Maybe it's a beginner's home-build?

Hi 84whiteONwhite: on Korean Fenders the dots are often significantly wider apart then other models. I have one: it is perfectly legit, so dot markers are not always a reliable guide. My Japanese Strat on the other hand has its dots the same distance apart as my MIA. So it's a difficult thing to call...

Cheers - C

I'm not saying this is the case here but we have had people come to our site just to see if we would verify their fake as real and learn what to do in future fake builds so as to make them harder to spot!!

Again not saying this is so in this case!!
