I know that he does have a signature Rickenbacker but I haven't heard of a Strat signature model.

IIRC from the stratocaster chronicles, he uses a modified clapton strat?, which I think also has a piezo and an extra volume knob behind the bridge

correct, he uses a collection of late 80s and early 90s clapton strats, with an extra knob that controls a gain circuit preamp. Word is he has a sig on the way. Idk how true that is however.

not sure he's worthy of a sig strat... no offence to him but he's never done anything revolutionary apart from the Marshall stack and his strats nothing other than a modified clapton strat. I always thought The Who were a bit naff tbh...

If Tom Delonge is worthy then by far Pete Townsend is.There are a few people who arent revolutionary ,but gets a signature strat.John Mayer hasnt done anything revolutionary on a strat, but still gets one.

That just solidifies my thought that it's not what you contribute to the art of music or the dues you pay but how popular you are at the time.

Hey well, apart from that, huh? A mere little detail that changed the entire sound of rock from that moment on. Pah: nutt'n...

Really? Interesting: I'm not well up on Rickies and didn't know about that. Got a link to it, please?

And to echo what Chanman says, we have heard from Mike Eldred that a PT Sig is on it's way sooner or later. Not many piezo bridges in the Fender line just at present, so I'd have thought it justified on that alone. A Sig Strat that offers something more than just a name on the headstock...

Cheers - C

First rock opera maybe?

Wiki wrote:
Alternatively, the term rock opera may have originated at an informal gathering of Pete Townshend, guitarist for The Who, and some friends at some point that same year (i.e., 1966). Townshend is said to have played a comedy tape to his friends called Gratis Amatis, and one of his friends is said to have made the comment that the odd song was a rock opera (Kit Lambert, the Who's co-manager and producer, is then said to have exclaimed "Now there's an idea!"). Later that year they released their first attempt at a rock opera, the track "A Quick One, While He's Away" from their album A Quick One.

Dont like the bloke much but cant deny his contributions to the musical revolution of the late 60's.

Even Hendrix didnt want to follow the Who at Monterey. (Imagine that the ultimate showman not wanting to follow a chord player). Townsend didnt want to follow Hendrix. They tossed a coin and Townsend won.
Thats why he set fire to that strat. The Who won the toss went on first and Hendrix had to upstage em.

indeed. If Hendrix had that much respect for PT then players today (especially younger ones like me) should have more respect for him. Even JM deserves respect for how great of a player he has become (in 5 short years).

most likely the PT will have the stuff from the clapton (Lace Sensors, TBX, 25db boost) along with the preamp.

That's the exact story that I was going to mention, lol. He came along at a time when other people were strumming and bopping along and was a wild man on stage. That story of him and Hendrix is a classic that shows the mutual respect between them. I wish that Hendrix had a signature Strat that was available now. I know that there are past models or so I'm led to believe but I have no idea why there isn't a current sig model available although I'm sure it has something to do with our favorite corporation Experience Hendrix.

Don't know the year, but have seen the quote:
"Fenders are harder to break." -Pete Townshend

Would love to see the return of Laces to the Fender line.
