I thought the longer they played the better they sounded. Would have liked it to longer. I get to see Roger with Clapton on the 25 of this month. Can't wait.

I'm seeing Claptop with Roger on March 8 and we've heard that Roger is doing a good bit of Who stuff. Let us know how your show goes!

Pino Palladino is a well known entity. A journeyman musician and side man in great demand for many years who may just happen to be working with Mayer at the present time. Keith Richards drew on him for the Chuck Berry Birthday concert because Pino has a way of getting an electric bass to sound like a standup acoustic, and that was a good 15 years ago, long before Mayer's ascendancy.

Yes!! He had plenty of time to do sound checks and make sure it was right. I would not use him again!!

There's a blog on the MSN website about their performance. Many people are getting all bent out of shape about the band not coming up to speed. Idiotic expectations make me puke. Anyone who has the slightest bit of experience with performance understands the logistical impossibilites of yesterday. IMHO what Pete and Roger offered up was more than anyone deserved, under the circumstances. :P

Probably from kids all bent out of shape that some guy named snoop diggidy dooby with his pants hanging down around his ankles wasn't up there singing (I should say talking) about pimps, hos, drug dealing and cop killing.

No appreciation for real music, it's a Guitar/DJ Hero age man.

That last comment just shows how off base you are. Snoop Dogg isn't even that relevant these days. Maybe 10 years ago... He still sells albums, but he isn't what is hot modernly. I just think that its sad, since the whole Janet Jackson thing in 2004 there hasn't been a single performer who is either a Woman or under the age of 40. Prince has been the youngest, and he was 47, had 2 bad hips, and is a much tamer version of his former self. He still rocked it however. The performance I saw last night wasn't firing on all cylinders IMO, certainly better than I could do, but definitely could have been better.

Who cares? Perfection (pre-recorded) is boring anyway. You always know what to expect. This shows that they are just like the rest of us. Some times we get of to a slow start, other times we get a good launch right out of the gate.
Maybe Pete & Roger can post this as their most embarrasing gig in that other thread, although I'm sure there are others that were probably pretty bad when they first started out that would beat this one out.
I still think it was a great show and definitely would have rather watched The Who perform than any pop or so called modern act.

You are correct about the Janet Jackson effect. It would be good to see some "modern" performers, but anyone would be hardpressed to provide a true concert quality performance given the constraints of the halftime show.

I also understand the fears behind putting on some of the modern acts because you just don't know what they are going to do. That has a place at a concert for example, but not the Superbowl halftime show, imho.

So you hire The Who, whose music might not even be known by a lot of the audience, even fans of CSI. Yes the show was not up to a 1970's Who concert, but given all the facts, including that they are in their mid sixties, they put in a wonderful 12 minutes

Some of you may not like what I have to say but that was not a good performance. Roger was singing off key for most of the performance. The last few times that I have seen recent live footage of The Who they have not been very good, they were out performed at their own VH1 rock honors by Pearl Jam. The Who has seen their better days and Roger doesn't have it anymore.
