If you could pick one of the following, which would it be and why?

1. Fender American Deluxe (Ash w/Rosewood)
2. Fender American 62 reissue (Alder w/Rosewood)

62 Reissue hands down.To my ears and hands the L series Strats(62-65) were the best ever made.My first Strat was a 65 and it's the benchmark that I judge all other Strats by.The feel and the sound are for me the epitome of what a Strat should sound like.I have never played a 54 so until then the L series will be the king of the hill in my eyes.

62 reissue. I don't care for the S-1 switch and the noisless pickups may as well be called toneless pickups. They are the worst in my opinion. Any other pickups and I would have choosen the Deluxe.

I would pick the American Deluxe. All those modern features for about the same price.

It's fun to ask the question and get the feedback, but you have to play both in order to figure out the one YOU like, not us. The feedback is always going to be opinionated (unless BigJay can figure out a way to scientifically quantify the properties of both ;)), and slanted toward our personal preferences. Heck, play them all. You might find a better one that you weren't even considering. :)

your first strat? does that mean you don't have it anymore?

Anyway i would go for the 62 reissue for sure. I have tried the S-1 switch out, and honestly I'm not sure I would really use any of the extra settings very often. I prefer the pickups on the reissues to the noiseless ones. people are too hung up on '60 cycle hum' I mean, maybe if you are practicing alone under florescent lights, or in a poorly wired building with a ton of vintage neon beer signs it might be an issue, but for the most part when you are turned up, and playing with other people it's a non issue. I think you give something up tonewise using noiseless pickups, but other people may disagree.

for me the best production line strats right now are reissues, or variations thereof. I really like the eric Johnson Strat (haven't played the rosewood one enough to tell,) and it is really a variation on a 57 reissue.

Hi Turmoil: well since most here don't seem to want the Deluxe can I have it, please?

I have a couple of RIs but no Am Dlx, and I'd like to have a go of that nice neck and the contoured heel. I also have a Strat with the S1 and regard it as inessential - but we might as well have it if it's on offer. Same goes for the locking tuners. Mixed feelings on the abalone dot markers - but heck, why not?

I require a maple 'board though, so please see to that. And I'll take it in Cherryburst, if you'd be so kind.

Yum-yum: I'm looking forward to it! Thanks!

Cheers - C

Between just those two, I'd take the ash American Deluxe.

Why? My experience with ash Strats has been that they sound better to my ears. YMMV.

ill have mine in cherryburst ala ceri style, no pickguard

i have a deluxe with a maple neck, so i would probably choose the ri

now straight of the shelf, the eric clapton signature strat.
absolutely love that mid boost.

i just cant bring myself to install that in my am deluxe. i am really digging the SCN's. i found a real claptonesque tone, with an essence of KWS
flavor sprinkled on it that im really enjoying right now.
