It's nice to have a mahogany guitar with humbuckers to complement a strat. I though about getting another Les Paul (have had 'em before), but decided I'd like both of my guitars to have a whammy. Check out the Carvin CS4. Mahogany with a maple top, much better upper fret access than a Paul, with a 25" scale. And you can order it with a stop bar or a Wilkinson whammy.

Only problem with Carvin is its a Carvin. Just doesn't seem to roll of the tongue as well. Not a very distinguishable guitar on stage.... Obviously they are a great company. They're just not Fender or Gibson....

by the way the HSS strat is a totally versatile guitar . i love the diamaonback humbucker .

i play a lot of style with it and it work marvellous .

think of the HSS if you stay on strat . :) dpending oyur music style of course . but im punk rock,, metal and the hss strat work wonder .

And GNR was the headliner I always wanted a LP. But When I bought my first electric guitar I fell in love with the strat. Since then I never look back. Moral of the story try PRS Single Cut Se. It play like a Les Paul. It is not heavy like LP. It is better than ephiphone. And the sustain is endless get the hard tail. If you only want the overprice gibson because its so over price that you are hoping to be like Slash then so be it. What Im trying to say there are lots of guitar that can sounds like an LP for a fraction of a price.

What I would do is go to Warmoth and have what is basically a Les Paul built in a Strat Shape

It probably would be cheaper than the Gibby too!

I can agree with the part there are better LP type guitars that are just as good without paying over $1500. But Epiphone does make some really great guitars. The Jr./Special/100/studio's are not their best quality, but going from the Standard on up, you'll have a fine instrument. Some even have American Gibson Electronics. You'll spend way less then $1,000 and have a true LP tone to compliment your strat tone you already have.... PRS SE is good guitar, but it doesn't look as classy as an Epiphone LP Standard/Custom.

I was thinking of a Hamer Talladega Pro. Sort of a LP but more strat like. Should make for easier transitions. Going to take me awhile to save up though.

I'm a Strat and Tele guy myself, but I also own an SG (I prefer them to Les Pauls). Gibby's are a different beast than fenders to be sure, that's why you find that players prefer one over the other.

I'd buy a Paul just to have it in the toolbox. If you don't want to spend the coin on a Gibson, buy a nice Epiphone Les Paul. My son has an Epi LP and about the only place they "cut corners" on the Epiphone is the inlays aren't quite as nice (you can see the epoxy around the edges if you look for it) and the pickups aren't as good as on the Gibson. Otherwise, hey it looks like a LP, it feels like a LP, it sounds like an LP and it costs waaaaay less than the Gibson version.

Maybe I should just get another Strat (an Am. Std. in Olympic White with maple neck)

It's too similar to the Am Deluxe you have. If you don't want to go for a Gibson, maybe think about getting a Tele.

I play an Epiphone Les Paul Standard in Ebony. $420 right now at Guitar Center or Musicians Friend. Add another $100 for the used Gibson PU's and it sounds, plays, and feels no different then a Gibson. I bought a Gibson LP Studio the next year and returned it. My Epi was a better guitar looking and sounding guitar. The Gibson equivilant is $1200 to $1600 more.

Too similiar to a Fender Deluxe Roadhouse with 4 ply tortoise shell pickguard and Texas Special PU's. (That's what I have!!!)
