I am wanting to swap out the Vintage style 6 screw bridge on my Roadhouse to a new American two point.
First of all can I do it? Lets hope so, because I already bought the new bridge. Second, are there any little "secrets" or tips on how to go about it.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated

It can be done but this is not an amateur's modification unless said amateur is good with carpentry or machine shop procedures. See, the two outer screw holes from the original bridge plate MAY merely have to be enlarged to accept the two point plate's sockets. On the other hand, oftentimes these two holes are not centered correctly to accept the two sockets. This means that the two outer holes would have to be doweled, leveled and then with no margin for error, two new holes would have to be drilled to a accept the two sockets perfectly. I say no margin for error because if anything is amiss, be it left, right, up, down, forward or back, the strings won't line up, the action and intonation would be off, the tremolo would never work properly, etc.

Again, as this is not an amateur's mod, the only tip I could give you is to remove the old tremolo and simply insert the new one free standing where you can easily see by the new two point plate if those outer two screw holes merely need to be enlarged to sink the sockets or if the whole dowel route must be done.

Thanks alot for the tips. I am most definitely an amateur luthier, and would rather not screw up one of my favorite guitars.

I will check the trems and go from there.

Thanks again

Glad to be of assistance and you've made a wise decision!

Note that if it is necessary for you to have it professionally installed, in the hands of a COMPETENT tech, this mod is indeed a simple task where the results will be most excellent; but in the hands of a HACK tech, remember what I said previously about no margin for errors.

I wonder if the 2 point bridge from a Classic Player's 50's or 60's would work? I'm not sure how available they are but the CP 50's and 60's are MIM guitars so maybe its possible...

Interesting thought. Although I've worked on them, it never crossed my mind to check. Frankly, I never had a reason too. I'm inclined to agree with you though as it would make sense for the bridge plates at least to be interchangeable among the models thereby cutting down on tooling, additional parts, etc. Obviously, I'm only guessing as I don't have either the appliances or their specs in front of me.

Just did a quick comparison of the my CP 50's bridge posts and my Am Deluxe bridge posts. Is the critical dimension the distance between the center points of the two posts? They measure exactly the same on these two guitars... I also checked the string spacing and am surprised to see they also appear to be the same... I assumed the CP 50's would be narrower, like standard MIM's... I think I'll double-check this later just to be sure...
