A while back I switched the pickups on my son's American Standard Strat to Vintage Noiseless. To save time I just did the pickups and not the pots that came with them. He wasn't very impressed with them, so I redid the job using the included pots. The pots, one 500k and two 1 megs. totally transformed the sound to what he was looking for. Now he ordered a set for his American Standard Telecaster. These I believe don't include replacement pots if I'm correct, so I was wondering if the stock 250k pots would be adequate or should I change them to 500k pots seeing as these are a humbucking type of pickup. He is looking for a more gritty, twangy and bright tone. I just don't want to re-do the job if the 500k's will sound better than the 250k's. Thanks for reading this and for any input.

Well, the grit would come from 250K pots whereas the twang and brightness would come from 500K ones. Considering Teles are pretty bright guitars to begin with, try it with the 250Ks first and take it from there.

That may be best, because if I go right to the 500's, I'll never know how the 250's would have been. And they may be perfect.
