Warmest greetings and salutations to all fender lovers herein!
I have yet another NOOBImageto American Strat playing query. What a pain this guy is!ImageI read in the how to guides at this site, that if one prefers to have the bridge on an American two point tremelo sitting flush on the body, they can use that option, and instructions are provided, but i didn't see any reasons listed as to why one would like to do it. Since i never use the trem, at least for now, and cannot find a hardtail bridge for a Strat routed for a trem, i'm wondering if this bridge flush to the body option is a good idea for better sustain? tone? I'm guessing in addition to the tuning stability i imagine improves as well? Here's where the bridge sits now, at just slighty under the recommended 1/8"gap between the bridge and guitar body at the back edge of the bridge.Image Also, since i've mentioned it, does anyone know if there is such a hardtail bridge for a 97' American strat routed for a trem? I'm doubting it, but ya never know eh? Many huge thanks for any sage advice!

It's just my pathetic attempt at humor and mild entertainment for the ones here who mention that they like pictures.

I don't know. I suppose some would say so, but the best proof is in the pudding ... give it a try and see what you think. Afterall, it is your guitar and your ears.

Dave.

If your planning on ever using your trem, a wood block is the best way forwards. Just slacken your stings off so the trem moves flush to the body. Measure and cut a wooden block to fit between the metal inertia block of the trem and the bottom strapbutton side of the trem cavity. I've done a good few blocks, your better off to cut them slightly oversized and sand them to a nice snug fit. Insert that and re-tune.

If your going to use the trem ever in the future your spring tension will still be balanced, so just take the block out and re-tune. Hey presto your floats back to how the factory set it.

I never noticed any tone/sustain improvment on any guitar after the block was fitted or removed.

mine is down touching the body. How do I pick up the back off the body without screwing up the action?

Dave,

Read my two cents on the subject:

As always, this is merely IMO where YMMV.

Well, thanks yet again Martian, along with the others who chimed in, looks like another fine example of sound logic! Perhaps a name change from Martian to Vulcan is in order here Mr. Spock!
