Hello! Could somebody tell me, why was VG Strat discontinued, or actually is it possible to buy it now? I was looking over some pages and searching on ebay, but I would like to buy a new one. I would also like to hear your opinion, I mean people, who play this instrument, is it a good choice? I want not only to play, but also to have fun, you know. I saw, that Fender made a Roland - Ready strat, but it seems to me very cheap to be good and as far as it is made in mexico...I wouldn´t dare buy this one, but VG looked better. What do you think? I am looking forward to your responses

The VG is a fantastic instrument.I had a standard one until I found through this forum a Fender special run Guitar Center American deluxe VG so I returned the std one and paid the difference for the FSR.
The VG in is a really fun Stratocaster that has a wide tonal range, much wider than any other Strat,Get some Duracel rechargeable batteries in the 2650 mill amp range and a charger and you will be good to go.As to where to get one there are many on ebay many from dealers. The VG has all of its modeling built in where the Roland ready only has the pickup and output jack and must be interfaced with an external Roland unit, this increases the cost in my opinion to above that of the VG.Get one you won't be sorry,Craig

You did precisely what I was going to suggest that you do. However, why not have them get one for you and put it on layaway or, if your credit line is good, buy it on their 12 month, interest free credit card. Pay it off on time and there's no interest. But you must be timely. Figure $125/month for 10 months. Gives you a 2 month cushion and you're home free. You should get it for $999 which was the price of the American Standard VG at the close out sale. An FSR Deluxe should cost you no more than $100 more. Hardshell case on that one. Let us know how you made out. Wingman followed my lead last year and he's quite a happy camper now. Drop that sucker into Baritone and play some ZZTop  Awesome 8)

Doc

FSR stands for Factory Special Request. That was a limited run based on the Deluxe Stratocaster V-neck, which Guitar Center did during the summer of 2008. The guitar has a V-neck and is finished in Aged Cherry. It has all the specs of the American Deluxe except the S-1 switching. So you have to be satisfied with the finish and the neck carve.

Ask a GC sales person if any at all of either type remain in the system nationwide. Let us know what you find out.

ZZDOC,was the gentleman on this forum that informed me of the American Deluxe VG,it quickly became my favorite strat even though I already had 6 others. If you listen closely to some or the "village elders" here and I mean that with a great deal of respect, there is much knowledge to be had.I would be interested to know if there are still FSR VG's in Guitar Center inventory, just yesterday I saw an auction ending on one that had a buy it now price of $3500.It did not sell. The only other one that I recall on Ebay I think the asking price was around $1500.Cheers,Craig

P.S. The Fender product code for the GC FSR American Deluxe VG is 011 7552 731WC

I have written to GC asking about FSR VG strat and this is the exact reply I have recieved:
"Dear Musician,
Thank you for your recent inquiry. The VG Strat we must not stock or are no longer carrying. If you have found one please, like on a manufacturer's website please forward us the link and we can look into special ordering one for you. We would need to know all the details you would want the guitar to be, like the color. Please send us a link and contact us back if you would like to special order the guitar. We appreciate you choosing GuitarCenter.com"
So what am I supposed to do now? I think, that 3500 is way too much to ask for a FSR VG strat. Where should I look for it? I am going to try to contact the Fenders...

Did you actually receive that reply from a Guitar Center rep?? Goes to show you the level of personnel they have. If you have access to a Guitar Center Store, go there and ask a sales person to search their national inventory for the FSR American Deluxe VG , or the American Standard VG. If not, send an email to GC and ask them to do the same. Fender can only tell you if they have cleared their factory inventory of this guitar. Let us know what you find out.
