Hi guys, I need help about fret level, I have a highway one and want to level frets, it is 9.5 radius but I can't find one that is cheap, I have a 7.25 one from an old fender classic, can i use that or is it a bad idea? the crowning files are really expensive too, i am in england so shipping from u.s is doubling all prices off the bat! any ideas? thanks guys.

Bad idea to use the 7.25. You'll make your frets uneven if not make them thinner then they should be. You might be able to make your own or keep looking around on your side of the pond.

Well read here:
http://www.frettech.com/fret/index.html
maybe that may help. It is possible to use a 3 corners file instead of crown file, and in such case you can use a very thin stainless steel plate to protect the fingerboard each side of the fret, but that needs skill!
Good luck!

Why use a sanding block at all. I dont advise leveling with a 3corner file. Their great for dressing frets though.

Personaly I just use a oilstone for leveling. £3.50 everywhere.

The prime problem I see with a radius block is that your faily limited in direction. Maybe thats just my thinking of it wrong. I suppose you could use a straight sanding beam to follow the complete length of the neck and sand in a up/down motion (E-E). You'd have to be very skilled to keep equal pressure on at all times by both hands though.

I never really worried about radiusing fret tops before. They really tend to follow the radius of the board as long as your light handed.
