okay so if you havent read my thread before this(seen the new david gilmour strat yet?) then here is whats going on. I bought a American standard FSR recently and was told it was a guitar that gilmour has played. It is 1 of 40. Has a picture of gilmour playing his red strat and it does kinda look like the one they were selling so i bought one pretty quick. After joining this forum and posting it right away, i got some awful news. It wasnt a guitar that gilmour has even been associated with. It was a bummer on my part, but i still loved the strat, real comfortable. Though ive been thinking, its really makes me angry how they used false advertisement to get me to buy this guitar. Not to mention they said it's wired like gilmour's strat was when he recorded DSOTM, But i learned on here Gilmour used stock pickups and wiring with his strat. Not to mention when i tilt the guitar i hear something that sounds like metal moving around in the guitar, and the pickguard is lifting up a little, i dont know if this is normal, but it seriously doesnt seem like its american quality, yeah it plays nice, and looks nice but there are some flaws in it. I have about a week to return this guitar and i am considering it. I would like to ask your guys opinion. Im not going to make up my mind on what you guys say, but some advice would be nice. Thanks, you guys have been more than helpful.

I believe the store you bought it from might of had 40 guitars made for themselves based similar to what Gilmour played which a lot of stores do with all kinds of themes , and that is what I believe you bought 1 of 40 of.

There should not be anything knocking around inside your pick guard, it could be something very minor like a piece of solder which is not the end of the world but the pick guard should not be having a problem . Now it all boils down to what you paid and if you are happy. I would bring it back and have them open it up in front of me to see if a solder joint broke and to see about the pick guard. Also if they told you it is US made even if the store had it done special they would have documentation so that will put your mind to rest. If it plays and sounds great keep it and go make music, but if the price was really high and you feel you were misled than check out some other models and put aside the Gilmour connection and you might find something you like much better for less money. Keep us posted and good luck.

As usual I will start with, if it sounds nice and plays nice then keep it. But from what I understand, a big part of the decision for you was the David Gilmour connection.

If you keep it because it's a nice guitar, will you always be disappointed with the deception? If you were to return the guitar and buy another, is there another guitar that would make you happy?

For me, when dealing with that kind of money it has to be right.

I wonder if you are hearing the trem arm spring. If you have not removed the sticker over the hole for the trem arm, like I haven't, you could be hearing the spring moving around in there, which is normal.

From the document copies you submitted the guitar appears to be an MIA American Standard FSR in Tangerine so the country of origin should not be suspect. Martian, in his commentary, was satisfied enough with the uniqueness of the FSR that he encouraged you to hold on to it, particularly since you seemed to be quite content with the guitar, in and of itself,

With respect to the 'association', you certainly have been given enough information to reproduce The Red Strat, if that's what you desire. Keep the one you have, and make your next project a Candy Apple Red '57RI with either the prewired EMG-DG20, or buy the components separately, and swap them into the guitar in place of the stock pickups and pots. You just have to find a spot for the battery.

You might want to let the dealer know what you think of their business practice in this exercise, and that the entire matter has been discussed on Fender's international forum, to the great dismay of many.

So much for their reputation.

Turn the guitar face down and listen for the noise. FYI.. those springs can be easily lost once the paper is remove. You don't want that to happen. It's the push back from the spring which adds tension and stability to the trem arm as you carefully rotate it clockwise into the bridge.

From your original post you already sound disappointed, I would return it while there's still time.
