I always wonder what the world missed with the death of Buddy Holly. My guess is that he would have eventually become a producer and maybe even founded his own record label. Who knows what artists might have been discovered. Such a tragedy.

And what of Wayon Jennings........who lost the coin toss for the seat. :? If that flight had never gone, would his life's thread have brought him to what he rose. :?: Such is caprice :?

Yup. From what I've heard, Waylon was pizzed that he lost that coin toss and was quoted as saying... "...I hope ya crash", err something to the effect. Tragically, his teenager’s angst was a very morbid forecast of what was to come. Admittedly, Waylon suffered emotionally for year’s b/c of his comment.

Waylon Jennings didn't lose his seat to a coin toss. Allsup was the one who chose to flip a coin with Ritchie for the seat. Allsup and Waylon were supposed to be on the plane. Waylon gave his seat to JP (big bopper) becasuse the bopper had the flu, and wanted to see a doc in Fargo. When Buddy found out Waylon had given up the seat, he told him jokingly, "I hope your old bus freezes up again" ... and Waylon joked back, "Yeah, well I hope your old plane crashes."

Allsup was about to leave with JP and Buddy when Valens asked him one more time to swap with him, and he pullled out a half dollar and said, "call it". Ritchie won, and the rest is history as they say.

Waylon and Buddy were close frineds, and there was no anger involved in the remark about the plane. Waylon has referred to his and Buddys friendship many times in songs. He did however, feel great remorse for saying it.. coupled with the loss of his friend, used drugs and booze to cover his own pain, self admittingly.

You can hear the story about the cion toss from the man who flipped the cion here:
