Welcome to the Forum.

Sounds to me like the neck relief needs to be adjusted. When was the last time your guitar had a complete setup?

Yes, the relief is adjusted by adjusting the truss rod. You may have to adjust the height of the saddles afterwards (lower most likely)...

If the guitar is 10 years old and rarely played I suggest taking it to a qualified Fender tech and having it checked out and have a complete setup done on it.

Hey there, it's good advice to take it to a protech for setup.

So my guess is a high or low fret around the 8th fret. To diagnose this just take a 6 inch straight edge (w/right angles) and slowly glide the edge over the tops of the frets (that are buzzing) going from the lower frets to the buzzy fret to see if the buzzy fret is higher.

Also check by trying to set the edge (a credit card will do) on any 3 frets to see if you can rock side to side on a high fret.

Another way is visual inspection- simply fret the note that buzzes and look closely to see if the string adequately passes over the next fret up when you carefully pick the string side to side (not up and down); it can be very close on frets that don't buzz, but you'll notice on buzzy ones it's too close.

If frets seem to be level around the 8th fret in question, you may need a setup- there are tons of tutorials on line to work you through this. But one thing that comes to mind is to also make sure you radius the string height according to the radius (curvature) of the neck.

Thus if you have a 9.5 radius neck (assuming you have a strat here) and you look closely, you'll see that the G and D saddles need to be adjusted a little higher than the B and A to pass over the frets at the same height action- and the two E saddles can be the lowest.

After a good setup if you still have some buzz you may need a fret level or a fret may have popped up some. Good luck.

Thanks for some great tips SRVWANNABE, the frets appear perfect with the ruler. I'll take it to a pro for a neck evaluation. Appreciate it.
