the gap is there on both hwys i own, and the backplates are plastic. if you plan on buying the one w/o the back plate, i say go for it, backplates run you about 15 -20 bucks or so, maybe cheaper.

3 springs on them, can we add 2 more strings, or would that be an issue with these guitars?

After I bought mine I took it in for a set up. I added a spring which took it to 4 not 5 springs and I also went to 10's on the strings instead of 9's. I really like the sound with the 10's on it.

I got an '06 Wine Transparent Highway One last summer for about 380 plus 120 or so for the hard case. Great guitar. It's just built for the blues and gets a great tone out of a Blues Junior. The Highway One's also great for different kinds of music. Yesterday I was playing some different kind of music - could be acoustic easily - that's big on the open chords and notes built around arpeggios with plenty of use of the lower octave strings. It's worship music but could be anything built around the classic open chords and notes. Amazing tone. Just beautiful and full. I had the tone knobs at 6, volume at 9. The Blues Junior was set up with reverb at 6, treble at 6, volume at 8, bass at 11, mid at 11, master low at about 2. Clean but full, beautiful sustain, haunting.
