Almost new Stratocaster own with a question. I was in Guitar Center this evening looking at the Les Pauls, and tried out a few Strats while I was at it. I really liked the American Select they had, to the point of almost buying it. Fender doesn't have it listed though, so I'm guessing it is a GC exclusive?

Any thoughts? I'm still trying to decipher the differences between the Deluxe, Special, Select, etc. The Select was the similar price of the American Standard. The Standard seemed to have less though, noticeably the S-1 System wasn't on the Standard. S-1 would seem a nice benefit, though hard to tell if its a gimmick or not.

Anyway, and thoughts and guidance would be great. The HSS option seems like it would fit with playing rock, and other songs such as Green Day, while still having a lot of flexibility with the two single coils.

I actually just bought the select today. The guys at guitar center explained that it was originally a guitar center exclusive and considered the American Special. Fender has since come out with a "special" thats being released to everyone, and the original "special" is now being referred to as the "select". When I picked mine up, it was still in the box from Fender, and marked as an "American Special". Hope that helps clear things up. I'm still not completely sure why Fender decided to change around the names like that. Just seems like added confusion to me.
