I wouldn't do it.

1. If you care about any of the value of your instrument you will be killing it by stripping the neck.
2. You will destroy the Decal, no way around that. The tint is applied to the wood, and the clear lacquer is sprayed over that, then the decal is waters slide, and then more clear is over that. to get to the tint you would have to sand down to the barewood then refinish with some kind of oil finish or the like.

You are probably better off ordering a warmoth/ all parts unfinished neck made to your specifications. That way you could put the EJ neck away and have it just in case you ever plan to sell the guitar

Vintage tint is what many wish they had. Stripping it off an E J in my opinion is a sin. Never do.

Well if you don't care to sell it, you're still probably better off buying a new neck. You can sell the EJ neck for around 500 bucks on Ebay

No offence my friend but the idea is just Plain Stupid!!!!

I think you maybe having some gas problems.

Don't touch the EJ and just go out and buy another strat without the vintage tint.

Good Luck...

Quite a few early '70s Strats have yellowed headstocks and non-yellowed rest of the necks.

If that's the look you want, go for it!

Many had tint right over the frets.

Sloppy sloppy!

Even mine has tint partially on the sides of some frets.

Down with yellow tinted necks! 8)

It seems that they've always been sloppy in that way :(

Why dot u try going to a local Luthier?, sure he can make u a nice neck, just the way u want it.
My Luthier can do the job u need on your neck without stripping off those decals, he did it on mine.

Lacquering over the frets is vintage accurate. The frets are put on the neck then the whole thing is sprayed, they level the frets after. Its been that way since 51. Nothing sloppy about it. Take a look at the other sides vintage neck/fret detail to see sloppy. The decal is ontop of the lacquer too on vintage correct necks, which I suspect the EJ is.

Man just leave it alone, if you dont like it sell the guitar.
