 Hey man; I didn't either (of course I didn't comment  ) But, next to my wife and kids, I'd fight over what is said about my guitar just as quickly.

Peace,

I use D'Addario 10's.

Disclosure: I just started playing electric guitar this year at the "un-cool" age of 36.

I changed the strings for the first time from stock Fender Bullets and asked for "whatever" in 10's (my guitar setup guy recommended 10's).

At first when I played SRV "Pride and Joy" with my new strings it sounded horrible. Same with VH "Unchained".

It still sounds horrible, but the tone of the strings sound great when my younger brother (excellent guitarist) plays it.

I'm thinking that strings matter, but not much compared to how well you can just play.

No matter what guage or how good the strings are a beginner won't be able to get the tone from a guitar a more seasoned player would get. It will all come together in time and you'll be able to coax great sounds from your guitar.

That reminds me of what I've been telling my nephew. He gets kind of frustrated when I show him a lick and he can't pick it up as quickly as he'd like, or if he doesn't get the same tones that I do. I tell him I ain't great, I've just got a fifteen year head start on him, lol. Shoot, it took me a good ten years to figure out what kind of tone was good for me.

I stick with the recommended Super Bullets Nickleplated Steel .009's. Just the right gauge for me and my style of playing. Not too thin, bends easy, yet strong.

...will Fender pay me for endorsing them!?!

I use Ernie Ball '10's on my Strat and my Tele. I think they give me a better sound than '9's which sound too thin to my ears. But, that's just my opinion which is , of cource, is selective.
