I bought a 2009 Highway one Strat. The thing is near mint and set up well. The body is one piece or atleast seemless. The neck fits tight, tuners good, bridge set up well. I did however notice that the walnut plug has a small ding on the side and isnt as perfectly drilled as i would have liked. Has anyone else had any problems with quality control on their highway one strats?

I have an '07 Highway 1 Stratocaster. Other than the few dings that it has recieved from me, and the one from the shop (which I did get a little discount on) it is in excellant condition.

I've got an '06 SSS H1 Strat, and it's first rate. I haven't got/had any problems with it at all. I'm going to replace the tuners with Schaller locking ones in a couple of weeks, but that's just a personal preference thing, not a quality control issue as such.

In fact, after playing guitar (mostly Strats) for twenty two years, I'd say my H1 is the best guitar (for me, and according to my preferences) that I've ever owned.

Mine was immaculate bought from new.

Impressive really, given how fragile the finish is, and how it's been picked up and down in the store by people trying it out..

I picked one up to try one day and the frets were sharper then a squire. Its like the put this guitar together without any thought of quality control...

I do not know about quality control, maybe you just got a hold a Friday afternoon guitars. (lol...something I read in a thread a long time ago) I have not seen any issues with the Highway 1's I have looked at, and have no issues with my present Highway 1. I am sure the Highway 1 goes through the same QC as the American Standards and MIM Standards. It makes me want to look at the quality of these newer guitars that are coming to the shops. Maybe the regular QC person was out that day and they had a sub in?

As far as the frets are concerned, you are aware that the frets are Jumbo? They are going to be a little higher than what is on the Standards and American Standards. They will stick out a bit more which could feel like sharp edges.

The small ding in the plug could have been caused during shipping or in the shop. Before blamming blemish issues on QC at the factory think about what it takes to get a guitar from the plant to the store, then think about the hell people put these guitars through while they are out on the floor.

Like I have mentioned before in other threads, the Highway 1 is not for everyone. And I always recommend you play before you pay. Also look and inspect before you pay.

Its not the frets themselves, the jumbo frets are fine. Its when you slide your thumb up and down the neck, you feel the ends of the fret are sharp. There should have been more attention to filing them a little smoother. My MIM Roadhouse and Lonestar have great frets. They were dressed very well.

I must have gotten a good one. I just do not have that issue. I have heard others complain about sharp frets with these models too.

I also like the Lone Star Stratocasters. I was seriously considering one, but found another Stratocaster model I liked better. Been saving for it for three months now. However, I may have to re-think my choice because Uncle Sam got me this year (ouch). I will have to use some of my new guitar money to pay him off. The only thing I do not like about the Lone Star Stratocaster is the Brown Shell pickguard. I like the Artic White and thinking of changing the Brown Shell guard for a Black Pearloid. I can live with that. We'll see how this pans out.
