New guy in the forum.
Need some advice on a recently purchased (used 1991 or 92 year) Fender Deluxe Hot Rod tubed amp. Several minutes after I turn it on, I get a loud humm for 20 seconds or so, with or without the gutair plugged in. Is this a bad ground, tube or just a bad purchase. I like the amp and reverb sound but why the hum right after its turned on. Need some help here.
Thanks

Maybe the tubes need replaced and re-bias'd. After all it is almost 20 years old.

I am guessing yours is a tweed covered amp? the early models were mia and are becoming sought after. I have the Hotrod version and I swear this thing is very loud for a 40w amp. Great value for money when compared to an equivalent Marshall though :)

Get it to a tech mate, it could be something as simple as a tube or a soldering connection that is loose.

I heard a lot of good things and a lot of bad things about this amp regardless when and where it was made. If you got a good one it is awesome amp for the money. Yours has some history behind. Take it to the tech if the tube replacement doesn't solve this issue for you.

FYI....you don't have a '91 or '92 Hot Rod Deluxe because Fender didn't start making the Hot Rod series of amps until 1996.

That's strange the amp hums for only 20 seconds after you turn it on. I don't know what to tell you about that.

Remember all tube amps have a bit of idle noise, some makes and models more than others depending on gain setting and quality of components. Does the amp hum when the volume is turned ALL the way down on both channels? If so, I agree with the others that you should take it to a tech, and try posting this question in the Modern Amp forum here. The amp just might need new tubes and the power tubes biased.

It could be a lot of things. Could be tubes, a bad filter cap, bad 5 watt resistors, I doubt if it's cold solder joints on the tube sockets because I don't think it would go as long as it did with them.

To be honest, the HRDlx has quite a few design flaws and are notorious for them, but, your amp has to be a good one or went the usual repair route.
Take it to a good tech and let him go over it. It's probably no big deal. 14 years is a long run for for that amp, It must have some good mojo.

Good luck with it.
