What kind of music does one have to play to get people to beat the crap out of each other for fun? Was the band name, Fight Club?

It was a punk rock song, very fast, those people in that neighborhood are very crazy, they like violence and music, I don´t support it either, but if you´re playing and they go wild, what you´re gonna do?? Tell them hey fellas please don´t slamdance will ya?? yeah right!!.......we´d get thrown out of stage and probably get our asses kicked!!!

Just remember scars are like tatoo's with a really good story....

When I was in grade 10 40 yrs ago our little 3 piece group played at a concert with 4 or 5 more seasoned bands. Two or three of the members of one of the bands were in grade 11 in my school and while we were playing the most obnoxious of them, who I never got along with, pulled out the power supply to the P.A. several times needless to say that added to our stage fright. The article in the paper the next day had our picture and said that we weren't good but we did at least play our own music.BTW the guy who pulled the plug on the P.A. is still around and people still use the name of a body part in the nether regions to describe him, some things never change.

Some years back I played the F___ Reading festival, it coincides with the Reading festival and is quite a big punk do. I knew the promoter quite well so thought, I'll get down early see Risky, have a laugh and be generaly very relaxed for when we go onstage. I arrive their with some Aussie drummer and get taken into the venue. On the way to the dressing room the promoter grabs someone points to some drunk fellas and says 'no more beer for that polish band, they've had their share'. I get taken into the dressing area and theres this huge spread laid on, food everywhere and crate after crate of Stella stacked up in the corner. So refusing to be outdrunk by any european punks I think, I better hit the wifebeater now. By the time the rest of the band got there I was hammered. They just egged me on and did their fair share too. We hit the stage at 9pm I'd been lashing back the beer since 1pm. As usual a bit of a drum crash then this huge crashing chord out of the bass and guitar to kick the set off. I tried to windmill the chord, my fist carried me over, I broke my nose on the stage floor, got up and asked if we could try it again. Much to the bands amusement. I played the gig with blood gushing from my nose. Still the fall sobered me up well.

I played in a rock band and got booked at a coffee house. Made sure they were alright with hard rock music. We started playing and the few people that were there all got up and left within 30 seconds and sat out on the patio....

Another time we were booked to play for a youth group. Got there and found out that their definition of a youth group and my definition were a little off. No teenage kids, just little kids all over the place. It was also VERY loud. The sound guy has an entire race car trailer full of equipment.

The worst was playing in a band contest (different band) for a major radio station and finding that the results were decided before we even showed up. The band that won was a group of high school kids. Their lyrics consisted of things like TP'ing peoples houses....

That sucks. I remember watching a battle of the bands contest 20 years ago in high school. The judges were a bunch of older folks who didn't like a metal cover band (despite having the best performance, bar none) but gave the award to a bunch of guys I went to school with that barely knew how to play. They had a bunch of dumb songs some panzy in their group wrote. Their music was like Nervana on downers.... It just doesn't work...

I tend to get into embarrassing gigs when we don't take soundcheck seriously. We can practice all we want in the weeks prior, but if we don't have a solid soundcheck...shoot..we're in big trouble.

Well, it was one of my first, while still in College. We were calling ourselves "The Mother Onion". Art Alexakis from Everclear was there speaking for a Rock the Vote Rally...not playing music, but naturally everyone who showed up was thinking he'd play. The other band that was supposed to play canceled at the last minute, and our drummer was a no-show. We were able to get the drummer from the other band to sit in with us but it was a massive disaster... many jeers, very few cheers!

After almost 20 years of being in different traveling bands i should right a book on embarrassing gigs ..But this is a recent one that's happened twice in the last year.....

To set this up i play in a Rock'n Blues Band..We are a 6 piece full time band....Plus on recordings and larger higher paying gigs we also bring in two horn players for a 8 piece band...So the stage can get real tight at times...

I am responsible for Vocals ,Rhythm Guitar and general front of the stage action....So i have a tendency to move around a lot....So about a year ago the sound wasn't what i wanted...It sounded dull like the bass wasn't coming threw ..So i walked back and spoke with the sound man at the back corner...

I then went up to say something to our bass player about it ..When i got right by his left shoulder and started leaning in to talk to him about it.. He did the typical move of pulling up and back on the bass in time with the music ..

This was very unfortunate for me as my front teeth were also in the same space as the heedstock of his bass..It's not hard to figure out what happened..In the middle of the set i'm my knees spitting out blood and my front tooth is laying right in front of me..I was able to finish the gig ..Afterwords i got 4 stitches in my lip and 4 grand worth of dental repairs..

Fast Forward 6 months later

We are now ending a gig ..Same bass Player same guitar player(me)..The gig is over and i'm winding up chord and the bass player is talking to some Gal..I'm standing off his shoulder..Instead of undoing his strap he pull's the bass up and over his head and shoulder in one fast movement..

The only problem is...You guessed it?Yep, My mouth once again was occupying the same space as the body of his bass...The bass made solid contact again knocking out the implant that just cost me 4 grand to have installed 6 months prior..

I would start wearing a mouth guard but it's really hard to sing with it in my mouth...I have also suggested that the bass player put a foam covering over his bass but he refuses to do this..I have also asked the band for full coverage dental insurance but they are balking about the cost...But all i know is the pain and suffering of being in a blues band that believes in beating up there singer really sucks..And is very expensive..
