Does anyone out there know what Fender's specification is for mounting torque for a bolt on neck on a Strat? I've been given some general rules of thumb, but I'd like to know just how tight I should go in replacing a neck.

Thanks.

Hi 69smokey69: what, you mean an actual figure?

I've never heard one, though there's probably some engineering types round here that can help you with that. Maybe.

I just do mine up... the right amount. Till the screw feels like it's nice and firm and doesn't want to turn any more without doing damage to the wood. By the time you've tightened the fourth one that much the first probably feels a touch looser by comparison, so I give them all a second touch of the screwdriver.

But I'm afraid it is unscientific, far as I'm concerned. A feel thing.

I'm not giving you exactly what you want, am I? Perhaps someone else can.

Oh, BTW: rub some candlewax on those screws before inserting them. Helps them to turn smoothly and lessens the chance of your "feel" being wrong and hurting the wood.

Good luck - C

Fender just uses a screw gun. As my step dad once told me when tighting a bolt or screw, "Half turn before it breaks"... Good luck figuring it out!
