Hello, my name is Dan and I am new to the forums. I have been playing guitar for just over a year. I am looking to buy my first electric guitar. I am looking at both the road worn 60's strat or the american special HSS guitars. I like the look of both guitars especially the road worn series. I like the fact that the road worn series has the 6105 frets. I can not find out what frets the HSS has. I like the fact that the HSS has an atomic pickup. I play a lot of different types of music...not really into metal though. I like to play alot of breaking benjamin, three days grace but also some stuff like matchbox 20 etc. So I guess what I am asking is which guitar do you guys think would be more versatile? Thanks.

If you are going to play mostly hard rock and/or metal I would go with the American Special HSS. It also has the jumbo frets, the same as the Highway One.

See thats the thing, I don't play metal. I do play rock though. I really want something that will perform well for hard rock but also have a very good clean sound.

Also looking for other suggestions for a guitar for me. Maybe something like the deluxe power strat. I have about 1200 to spend give or take a couple a hundred bucks.

IMHO.. the deluxe strat with the S1 switching is better. But of course I'm biased, since I own one.

Realy, you need to try them all for your self..

If you really like the Road Worn you can always add a humbucker to it or any other SSS Strat.

See I really like the look of the road worn series...I think it's a cool idea. I have heard of set up problems with them though. Is anyone familiar with this deluxe power strat?

You may also like the Lonestar Strat. It has better pickups then Roadworn and same single coils as the American special. Difference is the Lonestar has a better humbucker then the American Special. Best thing is the Lonestar shares the same wiring as the American series because its a Deluxe series. However, HSS strats usually require the humbucker to be a lot lower then the single coils becuase the output is so much higher. The Lonestar gives you the 60's neck profile with the modern American electronics. You'll love it.

If you're looking, I traded my Lonestar for a Roadhouse Strat in the same color last month in Canton, Michigan Guitar Center, up for $420. I regret it to this day. It was a great guitar. Still has the tremolo cavity sticker on it. Wish I could have both guitars.

There you go. I had an extra spring in the tremolo because I have it set flat against the body. Its a great guitar, I'm suprised no one wants it. When I bought it, the price was $699. New sells for $549. Used for $420 is unbelievable.

What should I be able to pickup for around 1000-1200 dollars used that would suit me?

Used, should be a Closet Players strat for 1200. Signature strats are around that price too. Best place to look is on Guitar Center's used website. They are kind of the Kelly's Blue Book of Guitar prices....

Just found a eric clapton sig series for 1200 and a billy corgan sig for 1000. The clapton is only an hour away. What are your feeling on both of these guitars? I am not familiar with pickups in general. The corgan specs are
1 Special Design Dimarzio® Billy Corgan Single-Spaced Humbucking Pickup (Neck),
1 Dimarzio® Chopper™ Pickup (Middle),
1 Special Design Dimarzio® Billy Corgan Single-Spaced Humbucking Pickup (Bridge)

And the clapton has 3 Vintage Noiseless™ Pickups (Neck, Middle, Bridge)
