Hello, my name is Dan and I am new to the forums. I have been playing guitar for just over a year. I am looking to buy my first electric guitar. I am looking at both the road worn 60's strat or the american special HSS guitars. I like the look of both guitars especially the road worn series. I like the fact that the road worn series has the 6105 frets. I can not find out what frets the HSS has. I like the fact that the HSS has an atomic pickup. I play a lot of different types of music...not really into metal though. I like to play alot of breaking benjamin, three days grace but also some stuff like matchbox 20 etc. So I guess what I am asking is which guitar do you guys think would be more versatile? Thanks.

I'm partial to single coils... while the HSS is a nice compromise, I decided to have a single coil guitar and a double humbucker one. Single coil strats are pretty versatile, you can play pretty much anything through them (except for metal). Breaking Benjamin and Three Days Grace sound more humbucker leaning. If I were you I'd consider purchasing two separate guitars (certainly for the price of a road worn you could get two really nice, entry level guitars). Just something to consider. Plus, you wouldn't be so bummed out when you inevitably bang them against the wall, amp, stand, speaker, girlfriend :D

awdxtc,

I do not care for the look of the Road Worn guitars; however, they play nice. I like the American Special HSS model, but the Atomic Humbucker is a little weak in my opinion. I have not had a chance to play an American Special SSS model yet.

If your price range is in the $799-$1000 range, I also recommend you look into the Deluxe Lone Star Strat (Pearly Gates humbucker with Texas Specials), and the American Standard.

I own a Highway 1 Stratocaster. I bought it as a SSS model but converted it to a HSS. I still have the stock Alnico III's in the neck and middle positions; however, exchanged the bridge for a Dimarzio Super Distortion. It is an older style pick-up great for what I play. I play Blues, Rock, Metal, Classic Rock, and Thrash. My guitar (plus my pedals and amps) is very versatile for the different genres of music I play.
