I have owned both a MIM Roadhouse and a Lone Star Strat the past few years but I ended up trading them for an '08 American Standard Strat and Tele. I missed the warm, clean Texas Special blues tones though, and I couldn't resist buying an American Special Strat to get them back.

It's all good now. :)

I have to resist the urge for now on the American Special, but I have a SRV and a MIA Texas Special strat with the Texas Specials .The candy apple red is a tough one to pass up, and none of my Texas Special equipped strats have a maple neck. :(

I had the lonestar, but hated the humbucker, just too much for my taste. I traded it in for a Roadhouse of similiar color, but I miss that rosewood fretboard. That was a beautiful guitar. I'm sure I could trade my stuff in for an American strat. But I love this guitar too much now to let it go. I even named it....

I own a Roadhouse and its the best sounding strat ive ever picked up. Also the most comfortable. I havent played with the pickup height too much because im afraid to get things really out of whack and then forced to pay to have it fixed but ill do a little experimenting one of these days.

Adjusting pickup heights is simple. All you have to do is plug your guitar in and staring raising the pickups slowly. When the tone gets too muddy or warbling, back it down. Same goes for any sharp noises. Takes a few minutes per pickup, but you'll have them set for what sounds best to you. Not a Fender Owners manual based upon averages....

So theres no real way to screw it up then? i always thought they had to be pretty close to the specs that you see on youtube of people doing setups. Thanks for the tips.

No problem. Post your results when you're done finding the sweet spot!

You're well covered on the Texas Specials front, particularly with the SRV, but I can understand the appeal of the Candy Apple Red American Special. I bought a 2 Color Sunburst SSS Special and couldn't be happier with it. Then I saw a CAR Special for the first time yesterday and I had to force myself not to play it. Be strong.. walk away.. so far so good.

Agreed on the Lone Star's humbucker. It was too bright for me but I guess I'm just a single coil Strat guy. Old habits are hard to break.

I really liked my Roadhouse but there was an Olympic White/Maple '08 American Standard Strat that I just couldn't resist. One of my MIM Strats had to go and it came down to a choice between the Roadhouse and a Jimmie Vaughan. The Jimmie won by a whisker because I love its soft V neck profile.

Can't blame you for the Jimmy V. strat. I had a chance to trade for those, but I didn't want the Tex-Mex pickups. I played a Roadworn strat and didn't like the harsh tones. Most likely the setup wasn't done right, but I sure love my Roadhouse now. I do wish the neck was thicker, like the V neck profile.
