I'm wanting to put some bite in my Strat and I was wondering if anyone had any experience with the Seymour Duncan Hot Rails or the Hot Noiseless Fender? The cover band I'm in plays country, southern rock and blues. I have a stock American Strat with a maple fretboard that does great for the blues and country but I want a little more bite than that for southern rock so I'm thinking about upgrading my other strat. Thanks.

1) Fender's Noiseless pickups are great!! I can certainly recommend them.

I've not been impressed with Seymour Duncan pickups. In fact, I've been downright disappointed with them. Find a Fender dealer that has a Fender Showmaster in stock with the 3 single coil pickups--they're Seymour Duncan's--and see what you think.

2) What about your amp? Have you got a killer tube amp? The sound is only as good as your speakers, your power amp, your pre-amp, and so on... working backwards to the guitar. Get a killer tube amp if you don't have one already.

3) Check out the Fulltone pedals. The OCD, Fulldrive, etc.

And while you're there, check out the demo movie of his Tube Tape Echo. He does a really good cover of Derek and the Dominos version of Layla on a 50s Strat, and the camera gives a good close up of his hands on the guitar neck.

I have what I think is a very good tube amp. I'm playing a Peavey XXX 212 Combo. What I love about this amp is it has three channels each with independent volumes and then a master volume. So, I can crank the volumes all the way and really drive the tubes and keeping it low enough using the master volume and not blow away my fellow band mates.

The clean channel breaks up nicely when using my Les Paul but neith of my strats will cause it to break so that's why I'm wanting to upgrade pick ups in one of my strats.
