ok- thanks first of all to all who have replied to my posts. your help is much appreciated.

i spent last evening putting a few mods on my mim strat- lake placid/maple.

i hit ebay, and found a white pearloid pickguard, and a set of chrome covers for the single coils. i also replaced the knobs with chrome ones, total output of about 45.00.

i can't believe how great it looks. when my son gets back with the camera, i'll try to post pics.

anybody else done cheap mods? i wouldn't mind seeing or hearing what you did

I'm doing something similiar. I decided to change all my hardware to gold. I even found gold control knobs and pickup covers. I'm waiting for everything to arrive, but when it get's here, game on!!!

Blend pot, makes all 7 possible p/u combo's available, costs nothing except a little solder and some wire.

I have my '74 wired this way, and made Tone II a Master tone.

I'd like to see what that looks like.

A cheap mod I'd like to try sometime is to make one of the Tones a master tone (that works on all 3 pickups) and make the other Tone a midrange control ....

Orvilleowner, that's a good idea. That sounds like something I'd like to try too. I'd also like to be able to get the neck+bridge pickup for that tele sound.
