Hey guys! Ive been following Ceri's Reconstruction surgery on the Strat body that got burnt and i've decided it would be a good idea to ask you all if anyone knows about relic-ing guitars?

A friend and I have accumulated 2 or 3 horrible strat copies over a year or so that you wouldnt play, so they are of course superb candidates for our experimentation of learning to age bodies and necks and hardware falsely.

So if anyone has any experience then please go ahead and share it please? we have a Sunburst and 2 Black ones.

Thanks to all that help :P

first thing to do is knock the polyester shine off the guitar body. I used rubbing compound, Tcut, then water and P2000 wet and dry paper.

Someone else asked this a couple of weeks back. If you find the thread all the info I have is there.

Like said above, if it's poly, first thing you want to do is get it off there. And also, if it's poly, have fun getting it off. I've had the unfortunate displeasure of getting poly off...that is always a task that I detest. After you do that, go to reranch.com to learn just how to spray some nitro on there. Poly does NOT relic AT ALL. Let me repeat that. Poly does NOOOOT relic AT ALL. If you've seen a relic'd poly body they always look horrible. So spray some nitro on there, let it cure, they relic it from there. Lots of tips and secrets of relicing, but definitely want to concentrate on spraying it with nitro first. Not all that expensive, especially if you already have the tools, and if you don't, you can always order canned nitro from reranch. That's where I got my whole start. You follow the orders exactly and you'll have a GREAT looking guitar. Good luck, and if you have any questions, just post them.

Well: RR is absolutely right! :D

I was delighted to find myself labelled a "reverse relic'er" on that thread. So I guess if you inverted the process you'd be a reverse-reverse relic'er - i.e., you'd be making a relic.

Anyhow, here's how to get a heavy relic look quite fast:

I have only ever seen one Poly Relic that looked decent. I don't know what or how he did it, but it certainly seems to be a LOT harder to start with Poly.

Not for an amateur.

Polys can get dinged up:
