Hi all,
I'm new to this forum and I'd like to ask for your help on a conversion to my Strat.

I have a 2000 American Standard SSS that I wanted to install a dual humbucker in at the bridge position.
Per some of my buds, it was suggested to me that I wanted a Dimarzio Super Distortion, so I ordered it.
After reading thru the forums I purchase a 500k volume pot, pick guard, and super switch.

I've been staring at the parts for awhile and decided that I didn't want to chop up my electronic. I decided to just build an entire new assembly.
I ordered two 250k pots for tone controls and knobs. I know I may need some resistors ( per what I've read from MARTIAN) but that's down the road.

I need to purchase a neck and mid pickup. I like the originals on my Amer. Std. but I'm not sure what they are.

Are they alnico 3 pickups?

In reguards to wiring, I'm following the diagram for the Amer. Fat Strat Texas Special. I like the splitting of the Humbucker but I've never done this before and I'm wondering if I'll have any problems using the Dimarzio?
All my ordered parts, other than the HB pickup, are original Fender. 8)

I'll post pics as I go along, as soon as I figure out how to. :D

Thank you for any help,
Bob

Welcome.

The Super Switch is not necessary unless you have some kind of exotic wiring in mind. You can use your OEM to achieve your purpose.

The magnets are Alnico V in those pickups.

The only problem you MAY have with the DiMarzio is a phase problem. If you do, reverse the green and red wires of the DiMarzio.

With the DiMarzio, the black and white wires are soldered together at the switch for the coil cut.

Good luck and if you have any problems, we'll be here!

Thanks Martian!

I'll have to find a couple of V pickups before I start.
I bought the super switch because that's what was listed in the parts list for the Am.fat Strat Texas Special. It's the 5-way Super if that makes a difference. I'm going to use it because I don't want to remove anything from the original Pick guard.

I'm still waiting on the tone controls and knobs.

Thanks again!

Bob

You're quite welcome!

Check e-Bay for those Strat pickups, there are always plenty of them.

Smart thinking on retaining the OEM switch.

Again, you're welcome and good luck!!

I found the mid. pickup but I'm having a heck of a time getting the neck pickup.

Does the Alnico V come under a different name and what year were they introduced?

Thanks,
Bob

The middle pickup is the RW/RP (reverse wound/reverse polarity). The neck pickup or as you are calling it, "Alnico V" has no special name, per se. As to what year they were introduced, it was sometime in the 80s. It is whatever year American Standard Stratocasters were introduced.

American Standard intro:

January 1987 NAMM trade show

This guy had two from that era that read about 5.9 :

If you watch there are neck pickups on ebay quite often.
