I don't think I'm going to play 13's to be like Stevie. 11's are good enough for me. We have so many more effects and controls now days that SRV never had.... He had a wah, tube screamer, and a very loud amp. We don't need that anymore...

I think he wanted to play sax but gave up on it. Lucky for us :)

You can bet if he played the sax, he may not of been so famous and probably still be here today. But then no one would of really cared...

Well, I'm not a sax fan so I couldnt name a sax player to save my life but on some sax forum they could have been talking of this SRV guy playing his number one sax.

used .12's for a while on my Squier Strat. I was also worried about the guitar, but nothing bad happened. It had to have a completely set up, and a new nut for it to work though. I also tuned to Eb Standard so that my fingers could handle it. The problem was that I tune to Eb a lot less often than I originally thought, and the guitar ended up sitting around the house most of the time since I couldn't play it with my band. So I returned to .11's. I didn't really have any major adjustments for that, the intonation was still prefect and even though the action lowered a bit with the lighter strings, it was still playable and it still felt really good.

OMG TGS You have destroyed my picture of you... Who'd a thunk it remind me not to arm wrestle with you...

Cannonball Adderly.
Boots Randolph. Do you remember Yakkety Sax, He did a duet with Chet Atkins and turned into Yekkety Ax.

I was a Sax player in my younger days.

Whenever I go up to the counter at a guitar store and ask for .11's they always think I'm buying them for my Dad. I guess you wouldn't really think a girl who's barely five feet tall would be buying a set a .11's (or especially .12's) for herself.

SRV played with something like 13's! lenny and Number one lived to tell the tale though :D

SRV also played the Bass at first so his fingers were use to that size string. I would think they`d feel like bridge cables at first and would take some getting use to.

Where did you hear that SRV played bass first? I have never heard that.

I know when he was young he used to go in and "use" Jimmie's guitar when he was gone. And Jimmie taught him how to play in the beginning.

Stevie started on guitar, playing whatever he could get Jimmie to teach him. His first guitar was a 3/4 size acoustic that was more of a toy than a guitar, and he got hand me down guitars from Jimmie from then on. When Jimmie was in high school they needed a bass player in his band, so he got Stevie to play bass for him until they could find a replacement. Although it wasn't really a bass, it was a guitar tuned down low enough to sound like a bass. Even though he could play bass, he was always a guitar player.

I've got 12-56 on my American Standard. Tuned down to D standard; five trem springs; little bit of adjustment on truss rod and saddles for intonation, and the result is AWESOME!

Even with down tuning, thats a lot of pressure on the neck.

Awesome video. I've never seen the Fender Factory tour before. Good stuff.
