I have a MIM Roadhouse strat that comes with Texas Special pickups. I just read a forum in which some guy said there is a difference between them and the custom shop texas specials. Is he correct? If he is, then i feel cheated. Almost like i dont have the real deal. Anyone know for sure? Thanks

Also, can someone tell me that saddle/string spacing? I've heard both that its the same as the standard MIM 2 1/16 and ive also heard 2 7/32 or something. Anyone know for sure? How do i check? Thanks.

I don't think that is right. I think he is mixing up the MIM Tex Mex with the MIA Texas Specials. I am almost poistive TS have always been an MIA product. And if they would have varied far from the original formula, they would have re-branded them as something else. So, yeah, you got the real thing. But don't look down on Tex Mex; they are pretty good, too.

I have a Roadhouse too and have also read that the Texas Specials in it were MIM (wound in Mexico...is that WIM?) to American specs (meaning that they're not truly Custom Shop TS). Anyone else know for sure? To be honest, I'm not even sure wehre I read that.

This is interesting, a forum member had the same issue with CS 69's in his classic player 60's strat, where they did not appear to be true to the specs of the site as they looked different and did not put out the same output. this was a couple years ago...

MIM is 2 1/16, I had a thread going on the same guitar for the same question.

I checked with Fender on my pickups. I asked about the custom shop logo on the back of the Texas Specials and their reply was only after market set has the logo. The Texas Specials are the same as the MIA strats in the MIM strats. What makes a difference is the nut width and bridge spacing on the MIA guitars are wider then MIM strats. This causes the TS not to sound as good as a MIA strat.

So who winds CS pickups then? surely not CS. I assume they would get done with the mia by the same machines- CS would only wind pickups that fall outside of their range that customers have specifically ask for?

I would be surprised if Abby sat and wound every texas special pickup that fender sold. AY 69's are different to CS 69's afterall

The only different texas specials i know of is the ones that were in the hotrodded MIA Texas Special Strats. They were custom staggered .The only ones they make now are vintage staggered with that dreaded Gpole sticking up too far,but you already know that.

I'd imagine the pickups were truely custom shop pickups. Since they've become so popular, they are probably made side by side with standard American pickups.

True CS pickups can be found on signature CS strats. I'm sure those are not made in general strat assembly...

I would agree... they all have originated in CS and become so popular in time :) demand has outstripped supply if CS were doing it alone when TS came out in the early ninties...

I reckon AY is up there with the pickup winding greats, Bill Lawrence, Seymour Duncan etc...
It would be fantastic to see more pickups come through... the 65's are beginning to raise eybrows :)

That's really depressing as i had planned on putting a MIA vintage trem in my Roadhouse. Guess it wouldnt work without some drilling, eh? Not too keen on doing that to my strat

I believe Vintage Trem is 2 1/16. Newer tremolo's are 2 3/16. Check with the forums and see what they say!

Sorry to keep asking about this. I'm just confused because the guys over at strat-talk forums said that the MIM standard was 1/16 but the Roadhouse because it's a deluxe was 2 7/32 or 2 3/16. Could they have been talking about the American Deluxe models? What does this number really refer to anyway? i can just check on my own strat to be sure. Thanks.
