Just thought I'd share a picture of my two favorite guitars. The first, a '74 Gibson L6-S...all original minus one pot I had to change out. The second, my '60's clone Strat built from various spare parts. This is the main axe that I gig with these days. It features a CIJ '62 RI body, AVRI bridge/trem, '62 AVRI neck with period correct "Kluson" stamped tuners, tortoise pickguard and aged white knobs and covers. Under the hood I wired it up with CTS pots, a 5-way Switchcraft selector, cloth wire, and a set of GFS '64 Stagger Vintage Wound Grey-Bottom pickups. The second tone knob controls both the middle and bridge pickups. It plays and sounds like a dream. I gave it a slight relic treatment which aside from the lack of checking (due to the poly finish) is spot on and really ads to the authentic vintage look of the guitar. Thnaks for letting me share, hope you enjoy![/i]

The finish on the L6 has worn through a bit on the neck and on the back of the body but for a 30+ year old guitar that's seen a lot of playtime, it's still in amazing shape. The frets are a little worn toward the first position as well but they still have a lot of life left. My only gripe with it is the weight and the neck feels a lot stickier than my strat. Lots of great tones with the Bill Lawrence Pups and the 6-way switch though...from meaty humbucker to something akin to a tele.

Cool guitars.

You don't see too many L6s's around.

I've seen one in person once--and I couldn't afford it.

Too bad they didn't stick around longer.
