If you want excellent pickups at affordable prices check these out from Guitar Fetish Store in the US.

Would recommend them over any of the big guns pickups. I have these in a squier and a mexican strat and they are well worth the money. The output is amazing and if you want a real texas blues sound this is an amazing set of pickups

HI! I just installed a set of copperhead pups, these are handwound to vintage specs! I have the 1959 non reverse wound mid set, I play mostly blues, but these can handle anything, sound incredible and are only $135 a set !!! check out copperheadpickups.com.

Later

Paul Stanley

Thanks for that tip Paul!

Update: Checked out Copperhead - very enticing stuff there!

Ditto Paisley Strat

But in reality it depends on the type of music you play and the sound you want. If you want to cut through and/or you use a long cable an active pup may be right for you.

I play blues/rock and have the EMG SL-20 setup on my axe. The SLV single coils are fatter than the EMG SAVs so they match up better with the sound of the humbucking 85 at the bridge. The output is louder than my Les Paul; and quiet.

My next strat will definitely be set up with EMGs probably the David Gilmour DG-20 setup
