Another question, Is it okay for the E and A string posts to be larger than the others?

That's standard manufacture on all modern american guitars.

It's a design change Fender instituted several years ago to provide increased stability and balanced tension on the strings.

Not to worry

Yeah the tuner post height is staggered. Meaning that the strings enter the tuner post at lower points as you go up through the strings. E lower than B lower than G etc.

Its to help allieviate tuning problems through trem use caused by traditional string trees. Your string tree is a 'easy pass' kind where the string doesnt snag under it. Having the tuner holes progresively lower eliminates a lot of need for those trees, yet keeps a good deal of tension over the break point of the nut.

Hi stratguy740:

Erm, but I'm a little unclear. Since the shop is, let's face it, a bit free and easy with their terminology, is this not what they mean by a COA? After all, no factory American Standard Strat comes with an actual Fender COA. I bet this is what they have in mind:

BTW: as many others have said, whatever name it goes by that looks like a nice Strat. After you've put these "issues" to bed - enjoy that guitar!

Cheers - C

I've posted my personal opinion on your guitar, but truth be told, as long as you're happy with it, who cares what I think!

On their website, they said "you will receive a C O A with your purchase signed by the presidents of both willis and fender. Some of the guitars might even come with a picture of gilmour playing a guitar like this"

Connected to Gilmour in one way or another or not at all (it really doesn't matter), that is a beautiful guitar! Enjoy it!

This American Standard Series Fender Stratocaster in Candy Tangerine, is a Factory Special Run (FSR) produced by Fender Musical Instrument Corp. for The Willis Music Company in 2009.

This Candy Tangerine American Standard Stratocaster and case (170083782) is one of forty guitars and cases produced for The Willis Music Co. This instrument was specified by Willis Music and members of its organization in cooperation with Fender Musical Instruments Corp. District Managers David Staton and Michael Edmunds.

Heres the COA. Doesnt say anything about gilmour or dsotm. but still pretty cool i got one of these, if i decide to sell the guitar at a later date.

Bless my socks. Well there ya go, I was totally wrong. A COA for an Am Std - never seen one of those before.

Anyone else got a COA for a FSR guitar? Maybe it's the normal thing and I just never heard about it?

Anyway. Well done you on prizing that out of them. Good work, and it adds that bit extra to your unusual Strat, Gilmour or no Gilmour.

Enjoy! :D

Cheers - C

No doubt. If you do sell it, you can add $50-100 over what a comparable normal MIA Std is going for.

Also -- and I have said this before -- I really like your Strat, man. 8)

Willis music did not call this a David Gilmore guitar. They just said the pots were wired to bring out the trebs and bass and eliminate the middle. Its like David Gilmore's guitar is this respect only. Thats all they said about this guitar besides the custom paint job and I should know because I own the exact guitar and bought it because I liked the way it looked.

I'm very glad I found this thread. I could not find any info on this guitar previously. I'm bringing it back from the depths of early 2010 it appears...

Anyway...HELLO. I'm new here. This guitar has brought me to the forums here, and should I buy a Fender, regardless of which one, I should be an active member, not a one-and-done info seeker.

Background: I just checked this guitar out last night. I believe it's the last one Willis has in stock. I don't know much about Fenders...They feel foreign to me, as I've been a Gibson player for years now. However, this guitar felt pretty good, and of course, had the Fender sound that I do not currently have in my repertoire.

After reading through this entire thread, I don't think there's any doubt that there's nothing officially David Gilmour and DSotM about this guitar. However...fact remains that it's a legit MiA Standard and it's unique or even "rare". Willis is looking to unload this thing at a discounted price from its original asking price. There's a slight ding in the body, and they've come down even more on it for me...

I guess I'm just wondering...is it at all possible any additional info has surfaced about this guitar since January of this year that active members would know about?

To be honest, I could care less about any official ties to DG or DSotM, and I'm inclined to think these kinds of guitars are gimicky to begin with...but it's nice, I love the color, and it feels good. I just still can't get the taste of deception out of my mouth about this, and I'm looking for anything to help me make a definitive "yes" or "no" decision.

Thanks!
