From what I perceive:

- It is unquestionably, an American Standard with a limited color paint job and MOTO pickguard. Nonetheless, a high end Strat in its own right.

- The paperwork evades how the 5 way switch works. This leads me to believe that if they did take the time to spell it out, it might confuse and confound which IMO, somewhat reinforces my postulation of how its wired.

- It is subliminally implied that DG plays or played one like this. I'm sure his legal people would be quite interested in how his likeness is being used to hawk this most likely unknown to him guitar by a specific Fender dealer without his knowledge or consent.

- Will this go down in history as the, "Fender/Willis/Gilmour Lawsuit Guitar" (or some such moniker)? Frankly, I do believe our new brother, stratguy740 may be sitting on a REALLY BIG collector's item in more ways than one! Only time will tell....

stratguy740,

Thank you for posting, welcome, congratulations and I recommend you keep that guitar in factory new condition. I have a feeling that you are indeed, sitting on a gold mine!!

As always, this is merely IMO, YMMV.

This would likely have been a tempest in a teapot had it remained local. Now disseminated world wide, I wonder does the company have any issues about the vendor doing this, and would Gilmour's people really care. about such an isolated case, in the US heartland. DG would have to have been damaged to make the juice worth the squeeze.

Thank you martian, I really like it here. Fellow Fender lovers who are very intelligent with their guitars. You guys also make me feel very welcome. As for this guitar, i really dont know what to say about it, lol. I am disappointed that it has nothing to do with DG, but on the other hand it is very unique. Only 40 made, american standard strat with custom color. I really love the feel of it, the neck is so smooth. I was already planning on keeping it stock. This is only going to get played at home.

The main thing is that you've got a quality instrument that you like. Congrats on the new Strat. I hope you enjoy yours as much as I have mine! Just remember, Strats are herd animals - they like company!

Too bad. It would be worth more money with those few simple words from Fender.

Martian's take on this is sensible and he's one of our 'main men' on this Forum. Highly respected. The more you hang out here, the more knowledgeable you are going to become in matters Fender. Something like this will not catch you unprepared next time. Though you may be satisfied in general, doing business with Willis, you will have to keep a wary eye out where they are concerned. I doubt this is the first outing of its kind for them.

Doc

No need to feel diappointed, you have a very fine and unique guitar! The fact that its a special run is icing on the cake. Enjoy it!

This guitar reminds me alot of a special edition strat from last year..

http://www.guitarcenter.com/Fender-Fend ... 1512124.gc

Its not very remarkable to me... in fact... it doesn't suite me at all. But to each his own.... Sorry!

Here's what Eric at Willis Music had to say about the guitar when I emailed for info. Basically, its a AMSTD in Candy Tangerine with a matching headstock, and wiring like an MIM 50s Classic Player. They've done away with the neck/middle combination you'd normally get in switch position 4, and replaced it with the bridge/neck pickup combo. So, I guess they feel like any guitar that has the capability of the bridge/neck combo is connected to Gilmour...

Of course, during the recording of DSOTM, Gilmour did not yet have the neck on switch installed at all. As a matter of fact, around this time, he shoehorned a Gibson PAF HB in between the bridge and middle pups on the black Strat, and the famous switch turned the PAF on. Now THAT would be a DSOTM FSR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Also notice the consistent mispelling of Daves name as "Gilmore". These guys are true rip off artists, using DG's image to sell their FSR that they blue skied over coffee one morning. I have a feeling that one reason these were limited to 40 was because they were afraid they'd attract the Gilmour camp's attention if there were say, 200 of them, lol...

I would also be willing to bet a paycheck that Fender has no idea that this is being marketed as a DG connected guitar. They worked too long and hard to make Gilmour happy to risk pissing him off. The FSR paperwork probably lists it as a "Willis Exclusive" or something like that. Then, as long as no one is any the wiser, they can promote it locally as being Gilmour connected.

Anyway, here's the email I got when I asked for specicfics on the guitar...

Hi Troy,

Thanks for writing about the DSOTM guitar, I can't believe people as far away as OK have heard about it. What is unique about it is the color, the tangerine has been catching a lot of eyes here at the store, that much is for sure. It is mostly a standard Strat, but the pickup wiring is a little different, when the blade is in the 4th position, the bridge and neck pickups are active and they emulate a sound which is a lot like what Gilmore used to record DSOTM. Aside from the color, pickups and wiring, it is essentially a standard American Strat, with a maple fretboard. It does include a certificate of authenticity from Fender and Willis, since it is one guitar of a total of forty. It might come with a picture of Gilmore playing one of his Strats that is the same color, but I am not entirely sure on that.

That being said, I can arrange to ship one out to you if you would like. Please reply to this email or give us a call if you need anything else.

Thanks!
Eric
