This is the picture that was on the paper with all the specifications. When i first bought this strat, the guitar in that picture looked like it. But now when i look closer it is clearly his red strat. Hmmmmm...

To do that guitar as pictured you'd need a '57RI in Fiesta Red with the electronics swapped out for the EMG SA's with their tone expander and boost circuit.

Doc :wink:

ZZ- I was going to post a question about this- as untill just recently, I thought the 'red' one was indeed CAR. But- upon closer inspection- I was convinced it was Fiesta Red. You have just proved it to me- if you watch P.U.L.S.E looks can be decieving :wink:

However- as this is quoted by wikipedia:

"His main guitar for the post-Roger Waters era Pink Floyd tours in support of A Momentary Lapse of Reason, Delicate Sound of Thunder (dubbed "Another Lapse") and The Division Bell was a Candy Apple Red '57 reissue (made in 1984) fitted with a set of EMG SA active pickups with the two standard tone controls replaced with an EMG SPC mid boost control, and an EXG treble/bass expander (which cuts the mids while boosting bass and treble). On the On an Island tour it was used every night of the tour on "Shine On You Crazy Diamond". "

So im confused- there are no clear pictures to be found anywhere :roll:

Anyway- this is a really nice candy tangerine- I love the matching headstock too. Not a fan of the combination with maple neck- but the tangerine actually looks very nice in that combination :)

By the time I've had the chance for a look at Taylor's book this evening, someone will have come up with it I'm sure. Given the time period, it's either CA, Dakota, or Torino.

Ugly Strat. Electronics sound interesting, but who wants a one trick pony guitar? The color is nasty and painting the headstock cheapens the guitar to me. There's a lot of money spent on something so ugly. Reminds me of Gibson's Eye Guitar...

Besides a custom color, and a matching headstock, which are both way cool, you have a run of the mill Fender American Standard Strat ...

Okay, here are my thoughts on this ...

1) The post above encapsulates the breadth of what you got very well.
2) The one "however" to #1, though, is "the special DSOTM" wiring. Do we/you know exactly what that means? You should get the answer to that if you don't know.
Also, if it is really called "Dark Side of the Moon" wiring anywhere by Fender (or any association to Gilmour by Fender, not Willis), keep whatever paperwork you have that says this.
That will drive up the value of the guitar if it something real from Fender -- David Gilmour fans are rabid (can you tell just from this thread??).
And something from Fender with even a vague link between Gilmour and Fender will drive up the value of your git a little more, for sure.
3) Aside from the Gilmour thing, having an FSR of 40 units means exclusivity that will keep the value of this guitar always a little higher than a run-of-the-mill MIA Std.
Keep this thing bone stock (or at least keep everything you take off of it), or the value will diminish.
4) I think your guitar is beautiful. The FSR order by Willis Music was a nice combination. Forget the Gilmour thing ... you got a real nice MIA Std that is different
from nearly all others you are going to see. Very cool.

Paul Balmer's book has a 57 RI in it (NOT Gilmour's) and they call the color Fiesta Red. I have two other Strat books and neither of them cover Gilmour's Strats specifically.

I am for sure its a Candy Apple Red '57 RI. It just depends on the lighting, can make look like fista red. Take a look:

So the fine line here, based upon the narrative, is that, though having been photographed with a red Strat and stock pickups, he never had a stage guitar equipped as such. The Red Strat had been modified by then. In any event, the guitar was certainly NOT tangerine. Sorta suggests why Fender's '57 Hotrod is offered in Candy Apple Red, as well. :idea: Clever marketing that. 8)

Years ago, there was a very popular rewiring of Strats which yielded:

Position #1 (closest to the bridge): Middle pickup only;
Position #2: Bridge and middle pickups;
Position #3: Bridge pickup only
Position #4: Bridge and neck pickups;
Position #5 (closest to the neck): Neck pickup only.

The neck/middle pickup combo was lost and replaced with a neck/bridge combo.

This wiring is still quite popular for those who don't want to do the blend pot thing.

I have a strong suspicion that this "DSOTM Wiring" is one and the same.

Informational: With this mod, the bridge and neck pickup then each have their own tone pot and the middle pickup has none. Of course, tone pot assignment can be altered too according to the owner's personal preferences.

That's an interesting and possibly pertinent bit of history, Martian. Though Fender's case candy includes a one-size fits all owner's manual , individual wiring patterns are described. One would expect that, if an LE FSR had a different wiring pattern from the current production line, an explanation of same would be included. The specs that he posted include the DeltaTone system with a special DSTOM wiring. Wonder would that work with a no load tone pot/ So far, the OP hasn't spoken to his perceptions of the pickup configuration.

Yes, it would still work with a DeltaTone System and/or a no-load pot with absolutely no problems at all.

FWIW, apparently, this particular LE FSR guitar is a mystery as there appears to be no bonafide documentation to go along with it. Further, I'm sure Gilmour knows nothing about it nor its existence either (thus far). YMMV.

This makes no reference to DG or DSOTM

So they kind of insinuate that it may be kind of like a guitar that David Gilmour might have played. Looks like a cheap marketing trick to me.

Still a nice Standard Strat but about as close to a Gilmour strat as my Highway One.
